I am not sure about Metro's rules but most of the providers will give you the unlock code if you call them (and your contract is completed)

If your SIM card has been PUK locked, you can get the PUK code only from your network provider. PUK codes cannot be provided by private sources.

I think what you mean is that you want o unlock it. This a CDMA phone, but there is also an S2 Sprint model which have a min-SIM card (the Samsung SPH-D710). But then again I'm not sure that it can be unlock. One way would be to contact Sprint, they will ask you for an ESN (located under the battery). To flash any firmware you need the firmware and Odin, this is a tool to flash firmware to Samsung devices. But that won't unlock your device.
I recommend that if possible, visit a Metro PCS store or Kiosk, maybe they can sell you a mini-SIM card and unlock it for you. Metro PCS use CDMA technology as Sprint and Verizon, but Metro PCS is now accepting GSM phones. Best of luck.

I just had the same problem with my son's Metro PCS phone. I took out the battery and SIM card, waited a minute and put them back in, turned the phone on and it worked! If that doesn't work take it to the Metro store.
