HELLO.

Since the outlet is live, the power problem is from the microwave.

check on the back of the microvave to locate the fuse that control the supply of power to the microvave.

Change the fuse because it is unable to control power supply.

Then plug the microwave to the outlet.

Thanks .

Had you noticed that it was getting weaker? Taking longer to heat a cup of water/coffee? If so then the magnatron was getting weak and gave up the ghost. They are expensive, probably cheaper to get another oven. the other likely failure component is the capacitor. Careful they contain power even when unplugged. Caps are not that $$. good luck

Dead ge microwave

magnetrons work only when the unit is cooking
it smells like an insulation from overheating wire so could be a fuse and failing transformer
take it in for a proper diagnosis and quote but if it is over 2 years old the cost to repair could be more than a replacement unit

Microwave dead

JVM1790SK - May 27, 2017

The first thing to do is be sure your outlet works and works "under load." The best way to test it under load is with a toaster or hair dryer.

You can also try powering the microwave from another outlet via long extension cord, but only for testing.

If the outlet is good, then the problem will be inside the microwave.

First unplug the oven. Then see my video here which shows you how to remove the grille and controller assembly on most over the range models.

If you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent.

There should be a technical sheet (hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille) which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

There were two versions of this model. The second version has more thermostats ("TSTAT" in the technical sheet).

Both version have a 20A fuse on the filter board, a magnetron thermostat (MAG TSTAT), and an oven thermostat (OVEN TSTAT).

To check the oven thermostat, you may need to remove the oven from the wall, in which case you should refer to your installation instructions. It and your owner's manual can be found online here.

If you have a version 2 model, it will also have a heater thermostat (HTR TSTAT), and a bottom thermostat (BOTTOM STAT).

When checking the thermostats, measure with a continuity checker or multimeter or ohmmeter. The fuse and all thermostats should read "closed" or near zero ohms.

(Ignore the "HOOD TCO" which will have thinner, more colorful wires. It will read open, and that is normal. If it fails, it shorts, and then the hood fan stays on all the time.)

You can order GE microwave parts here.

GE microwave/convection oven 1790 there is a #8 displayed in the right upper corner of display

HELLO.

When the F8 code appears,it means that electric control requires replacement because the relay drive circuit has been lost.

Attempt to clear the code by pressing Cancel and cutting power to the range for 30 seconds.

If the code cannot be cleared, replace the electric control.

thanks.

Model JVM1790SK 01 Where/how do you change the

This is a pretty bad design, sometimes you can just remove the upper grill and access the light assy. If the panel is to tight to work in to change the light, you get to take the whole micowave down and remove the outer wrapper to change the light bulb. This is also not a standard bulb (part #WB25X10019). You may be able to get one from Lowes or Home Depot actually Sears would be a better bet, otherwise you will need to order one from an appliance parts outlet. Hope this helps and sorry I didn't design the thing I just fix them.

We had an power outage and lost power for a few hours everything came back on but the microwave. I checked the outlet and checked the fuse still nothing. Is there anything that can be fixed?

Hello if you have no power at the outlet, you may have saved your microwave. If the outlet is dead go to your house electrical panel and reset the breaker or replace the fuse. if the outlet is live and the microwave still won't power on you will have to choose between repair and replacement. Definitely get an estimate before agreeing to a repair as microwaves are very inexpensive today compared to even a couple of years ago.
