In IE , type 192.168.1.1 , put user name and password.
then click on security tab from top. You will find the wps settings there. and at the back of some new routers, there is WPS button available.

Yes you can. The button is in the software. goto http://192.168.1.254 or whatever the URL for the modem. Login. Goto Home-->Wireless--> Push WPS Button Remotely and push the button. I don't know if you need to have the repeater nearby when you do this. I had mine sitting right next to my router.

SOURCE: hp printer says to press the WPS button on the router. What's that?

  • Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections.
  • WPS lets you use push buttons or PINS instead of entering a network name (SSID) and wireless security by hand.
  • Push button: The WPS button is either on the product or a clickable button on a wizard or utility screen.
  • Personal Identification Number (PIN): The PIN is either on a product label or can be viewed on a wizard or utility screen. The PIN is entered for either the router or access point, or for the wireless device that wants to join the network.

Where do I find the WPS PIN on my canon mg3220 printer. I need it for installation on a new router

I believe that Justus answer is incorrect and looks to be AI Produced. The SSID WPS PIN number is on the Router not on the printer. You tell the router to search for the printer, and you tell the printer to look for the Router. When they find each other, the Printer will ask you to enter the SSID and WPS Password that is on the Router. This is the way I did my Canon MG7120 to a Bell Home Hub Router. The process is the same setting up my iPhones for WiFi.

How i reset to factory defaults without passwords?

That depends upon the brand of the router. It would be wise to google for the particular brand.

There often are software means to perform a reset but here are the hardware means.

For Netgear:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless On/Off and WPS buttons until the Power LED blinks red (about 6 seconds).
  2. Release the Wireless On/Off and WPS buttons and wait for the router to reboot.
For Linksys:

1. Press the red reset button on the back.
2. Unplug it from power for 30 seconds. Plug the power back in.

For Belkin:

1. Find the reset button (depends on the model).
2. Depress the reset button for 15 seconds.
3. Wait one minute for the router to restart.

Here is a tutorial for Cisco routers:

http://www.networkworld.com/article/2343961/cisco-subnet/how-to-reset-a-cisco-router-to-factory-default--removing-the-startup-configuration-file.html

Here is one for TP-Link:

http://www.tp-link.us/article/?faqid=496

For D-Link:

Push a paperclip into the hole marked reset on the back and keep it depressed for 10 seconds.

The default user name is usually admin and there is no password (password is blank).

Clear password router

Try pushing the button for 10 seconds or more, because 5 seconds would be for wps or emergency firmware reload(like for a corrupted firmware).

Machine does not appear to have WPS button, where is it.

Some wireless routers will have a WPS button. Printers do not have one. As you set up a printer to connect to your wireless network, you press the WPS button on the router when prompted by the setup program.

If your router has a WPS button, it will usually be on the back of the router. However, on the Netgeat WNR3500-100NAS, the button is on the bottom front of the router. If your router doesn't have a WPS button, log into the router's administrator page. (In your browser, type in http:// + the I.P. address of your router. (It will often be 192.168.1.1 .) Enter the administrator name and password. (admin is the common administrator account name). Then go to the Wi-fi page, there will be a way to start the WPS signal. (This assumes you are using a security protocol that is compatible with the WPS setting. WPA/WPA2 are compatible; WEP isn't (if I recall correctly).) Most router manufacturers have a default administrator password. I strongly recommend changing from the default passwords; they are available in any manual.
The alternative is to type in the name of your wireless network and its security password during the printer setup.
Please add a comment with your specific router make and model. I will be glad to tell you where on the unit a WPS button is, if one is present. I can also give you information on the default administrator account and password.

Im trying to set security on belkin n router

Hi...if your router has WPS capability, such as a special button to set up wireless security, then to use it your client computer/device must also be WPS enabled.

If it is, there are usually two options to configure WPS security: the push button method, or the PIN number. The push button method usually requires that you press the WPS button on the router, then within a set time, press the equivalent button on the computer (eg laptop, or whatever device it is). The PIN number method requires a PIN to be entered into the client computer. The PIN can sometimes be found on a sticker on the router.

Your manual should help with the details, but see this page for some more info.
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101691.asp

If you don't have a WPS enabled computer or don't want to use it, you can set up security manually. Please come back to Fixya if you'd like help with this.
