Router installation I have connected my router to my computer but i cannot access the internet from my laptop. i am receiving the message " unable to validate identity, Disconnect". I have connected my router (model: wrt160n) to my computer but i cannot get internet access from my toshiba laptop.

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.

If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.

Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.

Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.

Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire.

Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.

The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver.

Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

try reboot of router if it doesnt replace router it has failed

192.168.1.1 or, 192.168.1.115 should do it

this message comes when your computer is not getting the IP address from the router.
There are possible reasons for that.
1. DHCP on the router may be disabled.
2. If your network is secured , then you might not be typing the correct network key.

In both the cases , you will need to check the settings of the router.

disconnect all the connections from the router. connect only the computer to the port 1 on the router. check the lights on the router. Reset the router for 30 seconds . unplug the power to the router. plug it back in. wait for 1 minute.now check the IP address on the computer. Win XP = click start ==> run ==> type cmd in run box and click ok. you will see the command prompt. in the black window type ipconfig and hit enter. now you will get the IP address and the Default gateway. Default gateway will be the number of your router. This will open the roputer set up. not check the settings on the router. If you connect the modem to the router, it works. now reconfigure the router as per ISP. Click Here for more info about how to set up router

I have resolved the problem by doing a system restore. I set the computer to a previous date and this seems to have sorted out the problem. I guess that I may have had a software confliction.
