If you could also provide the exact model number of your GE phone, then I could certainly help you find the precise instructions for carrying out those procedures. Normally you should find the model number printed on the very bottom (underside)of the telephone.
Please just comment back with that additional information and I will be pleased to provide any assistance you need.
Thank you.
Joe.

If your phone is the GE 29585FE1 model, then here is a direct link to the User's Manual for that phone:

Just click on the blue highlighted text directly above and a new internet browser window will open up automatically and show you the contents of the User's Manual for your phone.

The section titled MEMORY has complete details on how to store names and numbers in the memoery and speed dial locations.

Please be sure to let me know if you have any difficulties opening up and reading the User's Manual at the blue highlighted link provided above.

Here is an except from that section of the User's Manual:

You may store information in any of the following memory locations: 0 to 9, A, B, and C .

Storing a Name and Number in Memory

    1. Press the store button. The screen displays LOCATION?.

    2. Press the desired memory location (0-9, A, B, C).

NOTE: You may select memory locations by pressing review 3 or 4 buttons to scroll through the memory locations or press the 0 - 9, A, B, C.

    3. Press the store button again to confirm the memory location.

As I said, the complete details are in the manual includng how to transfer Caller ID information from past callers into your directory.

Please COMMENT back if you have any difficulties or have any additional questions and I will be happy to assist you as much as necessary.

    Thank you and take care.

I have a KX-T7456. Set 3 CO buttons for speed dial with new names and extensions. Busy light does not come on when those 3 lines are in use. Works on all the other numbers.

It's not speed dial, it's DSS. Names come from the directory (sys prog 004). The button programs from personal programming PROG 99? button 1+ext+STORE.

How do I program numbers into the system (not personal) speed dial directory on the KX-T7630

The installer or system manager has access to system program 001, either by a phone or by the maintenance console. All system speed dial numbers and names are entered from there.

Having trouble entering speed dials - please help!

Not knowing the specific model of the phone system itself (the PBX cabinet in the telephone closet) I would guess you are using the "personal directory" and it only has 10 number memory and it goes from 0-9. The system directory will give you more mems.

How to enter phone numbers into the memory/speed dial?

The manual from the GE web site is here:

http://www.home-electronics.net/ge/pc/IB/29267GE3_IB.pdf

It's a pretty straightforward process, Pick up the handset press STORE a location (0-9) STORE dial the number STORE

With only 10 storable numbers it's pretty thin, but you also have the last 50 CID numbers to dial. If you live in an area with more than one local area code (overlays) and mixed 10 digit dialing, it looks like you may have some programming to do to make it dial CID numbers properly.

Setting the date

By programming, these are programs 000,001 and 002 for Date and Time, Speed Dial number, and Speed Dial Name.

Date and time programming is easy, I don't wish manual speed dial entry on my worst enemy. However, if you like a challenge, I'm going to give you a link to the programming manual.
http://public.carl.airpost.net/TDA/TDA_PTPM_32.pdf

Start with page 12, since you'll need it to get into programming.
Your key sequences begin on page 16. After you put the first 5 or 10 speed dial numbers and names in, you'll get the hang of entering names in the directory. Nothing changes until you press ENTER or STORE. Each speed dial number starts with a trunk access code (usually 9) as part of the number. In name entry, each time you press the key it changes a letter. In a TDA IIRC 7 presses of the 2 key will get you ABCabc2.

Speed dial access

It's easier if you have access to the database to put in names with the numbers, but in the simplest sense, you can take a piece of paper, write down locations, and start entering numbers.

PROG

They are added in sytsem speed dial from the first extension or one designated as the manager's phone. PROG **1234 gets you into programming and 001 is the system speed dial area. With a combination of NEXT's and ENTER, you can be looking at SD 000 (ie PROG **1234 NEXT NEXT ENTER NEXT) and you're ready to enter a speed dial in bin 000. The complete number starts with an access code (9) plus the number as you would dial it. For example 918005551212 ENTER puts that number in bin 000. NEXT will step to 001.

USE

Press INTERCOM or select a line and press AUTODIAL and dial the 3 digit code. If your installer was lazy, you will have a problem as "9" selects the highest line in a trunk group, one that you might not have. In that case, he'll either have to program the system properly, or you will always have to pre-select a line to use speed dial.

Notice that this is just hte instructions for SYSTEM speed dial. I guessed that it was what you're looking for. Personal speed dial is a different set of instructions and it could be either under a button or in your 10 or 100 number personal directory (so that's where the 2 digit SD's went :-))

Anyway, if you need those instructions and can't find them in the user manual, please post back.

Carl
