try these suggestions & see if they help

Sewing machine skips stitches
1.needle inserted incorrectly--flat side of the needle faces the shaft
round needle--groove of needle faces away from the shaft
2.Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the needle. Place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back of the machine.
If round needle--the groove in the needle faces away from the shaft
Push needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go.
3.possible bent needle--lay needle on flat surface & roll needle over, if the needle does not roll good -replace
4.blunt needle point--needle makes a popping sound when needle penetrates the fabric--replace needle
5.needle not all the way up in needle holder--loosen needle clamp screw & push the needle up until it stops then tighten screw
6.incorrect threading--one step missed in sequence of threading can cause machine to skip stitches
7.wrong needle in machine--check instruction manual--some machines can use a generic needle with no problem--some can't--
8.size of needle & thread not compatible--
Using the wrong type needle can cause problems,,
A needle to fine for heavy fabric can bend or break when it hit's the fabric
And a too large needle can make puncture holes in the fabric and pull unevenly while stitching

Slant o matic 401g skipping stitches what is wrong

Make sure you are using a brand new needle. A damaged needle will frequently cause skipped stitches. (Changing the needle is the least expensive repair for machine problems!!!!)

Can I adjust the timing on my Juki TL-2010Q myself? I need realy detailed directions!

Have you replaced your needle first. Sometimes simply a new needle will do the trick. That Juki being a straight stitch only machine make it simple. When the needle reaches its lowest point and then starts back up about an eight of an inch. The point of the hook should be slightly above the eye of the needle and be directly behind the needle shaft.

Skipping stitches

Skipped stitches
1. A bent or dull needle
2. The wrong needle for your fabric
knit fabrics require a jersey or ballpoint tip. Most wovens do well with a universal tip, and specialty fibers, like leather or metallic, usually require specific needles.
3. Incorrect machine threading
4. Unbalanced needle thread tension
Start by making relatively small changes and run a test stitch to evaluate the impact. If you need to adjust the tension dial using woven cotton fabric with good quality all-purpose thread and a new needle
5.check the needle is inserted correctly. The needle needs to be pushed as far up the needle shaft as possible. It's easy to insert the needle half way, clamp it down and think it is inserted correctly.
the flat part of the needle should be positioned towards the back. If the needle is not inserted correctly, it will not be able to pull up the bobbin thread and will cause skipped stitches.
6. If the suggestions don't help then it is time for a tune-up.

My sewing machine (Singer Confidence Quilter) skips stitches when I use the zig zag stitch. I regularly clean and oil my machine. I have changed needles, changed thread etc. , every thing the manual says...

Try straight stitching on the left side and then on the right side of the foot. If it doesn't give a stitch on the left it is a sure sign that it needs to be timed.
