Let me guide you.

This is Dell Support > Dimension 2300 desktop computer > Drivers and Downloads,

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_2300&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Under the bold heading - Refine Your Results - you make the choice of what Operating System your computer is using, and what category of driver/s you need.

By default Windows XP is shown as a choice of Operating Systems.
The Category box has All in it.

The Dimension 2300 came with Windows XP Home Edition on it.
ALL drivers for the Dimension 2300 desktop computer are shown.

Down below the heading - All Dimension 2300 (53) - is the subheading - Audio (1)
This is the sound driver file.
Left-click on the blue down arrow in the circle, to the left of Audio (1)
(Expands the Audio folder)

The file name is R46202.EXE
(It is for ADI 198x Integrated Audio)

Left-click on Download to the right, in the oblong blue 'button'.

The Download Options window will come up.
You are given two choices.

I recommend the second choice, Download via your internet browser.
Left-click on Download below this heading.

A small window will come up on the right - Opening R46202.EXE
Left-click on Save File at the bottom of this window.

Another small window will come up on the left.
In the wording at the top of this window, tells you where the file will download to.

It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads in it.

(If the computer you are using has Windows XP on it.
Folder names change a little for Vista, and Windows 7)

Desktop: The audio file ( R46202.EXE ) will be on your desktop screen, next to a yellow folder icon.

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents.

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

When you see the file name DOUBLE-click right on it.
The Installation Wizard will come up. Follow the easy instructions.
(Essentially just click on Next, Next, and Finish at the bottom of the windows)

Once the audio file is installed, close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Now restart your computer.

Make sure you have your sound turned all the way up in Windows.(And not on Mute)
Go down to the system tray at the bottom of your desktop screen, (Where the clock usually is), and left-click on the speaker icon.

Give it a couple of seconds, and a Volume slider will come up on your screen. Make sure the slider is slid all the way to the top. Now left-click on an empty area of your desktop screen to close the Volume slider.

{To move the Slider (Small rectangle on the vertical line), left-click on the Slider, and hold the left mouse button down. Now move your mouse away from you }

{Don't see a speaker icon? It may be that your Volume icon, (Speaker icon) is hidden. Left-click on the side arrow, and show all icons}

Why wont my speakers work

Hello,

Have you installed the correct drivers in your computer? You should make sure that the drivers are compatible with the operating system that you are running.

You can find the drivers in the website of your computer's manufacturer. Go to Support and Download page and enter the model number of your computer. Select the operating system that you are running so that all drivers will be presented to you. Then download the drivers for sound, video, internet, etc.

Just follow the on-screen instructions. If you don't know how to do it.

Please provide me with the following information so that I can provide you with further help:

1. Operating system of your computer
2. Model of your computer

After fixing the problem, I suggest that you install RadarSync to keep all drivers updated - it would make sure that they won't get any problems.

I hope this helps!

David

How do I download the driver?

hello,

I think you need all the drivers in the computer and not just the sound driver since you wiped out everything there.

Here's what you can do:

Go to the website of your comptuer's manufacturer and auto detect the brand of your computer. If they don't have it, then just try searching for it in the computer's casing. You should find the model name somewhere. Make sure to select the support and downloads page in the website and enter the operating system that your computer is currently running. All drivers will be shown on the screen.

Download the following:

1. Video Driver
2. Chipset Driver
3. Audio Driver
4. Internet or Network Driver

You should also install an anti-virus in the computer to make sure that you won't get any virus. After installing everything and if everything's working great, then you can other programs there. You can also add a tech software which can boost your computer's performance like RadarSync which will keep all your drivers updated.

    Sound problem

You need to install the drivers for your sound card as when you format a drive you wipe it clean.
Identify your sound card, and download from there site.

    Sound - speakers or headphones

    Hi,
You need to get someone who knows about computers to open your computer and check to see what kind of sound card it has. Then type the model number into google, followed by the word driver, and look for a download.
Also download and install Belarc Adviser and run it and find your motherboard model number. Then google that followed by the word drivers, and look for the Chipset Driver (essential) and audio, LAN, and wireless (eg broadcom, atheros, intel pro etc) drivers too.
You could also try going to Control Panel > System > Device Manager and looking in the list for the sound device. It will have a yellow exclamation mark next to it. Then double click it and then click the driver tab in the window that pops up. See if you can update it from there.

Whenever you wipe a system and do a clean install, this is what you have to do to get the new operating system to 'recognise' what the various parts of the motherboard and sound cards etc. At some point you'll have to find out what kind of graphics card you have too, and download and install drivers for that, they'll probably be ATI or nVidia.
    Hope this helps

Download and burn to a CD or copy to USB, then copy to your notebook. I keep a driver folder on my systems with the last drivers I used, never know when they'll come in handy.

    Legacy Drivers

Use a program such Everest to get the name of your sound driver. Then try to download it from the internet. If you have the CD use it.
