Ice build up

I have a 2 yr old Whirlpool refrigerator. Noticed a considerable amount of ice built up at bottom of freezer, also ice build up around back freezer vent. Do you have any ideas on the possible cause?

Have a second hand Homemaker chest freezer model hmbd155....recently noticed fluid around the floor....? Leaking..don't have a manual and noticed a dial on the bottom left hand corner .What this do..?

The dial Adjusts the temperature. If it is adjusted too cold you might have ice build up underneath the freezer thus causing the fluid that you see. As the freezer is old it can also be that the insulation underneath is a bit old causing the ice build up and fluid leakage. A broken thermostat (dial) will also cause too low temperature inside and possible ice build/fluid leakage.

Loud "clattering" noise from freezer area when refrigerator runs

There is a fan in the back of the freezer that runs when the compressor is running. It sounds like you have ice build up around the fan.
You could have one of these problems: (Sorted by most likely to least likely)
1) Auto Defrost timer, defrost bi-metal or defrost heater is defective - the unit will go into auto defrost about twice a day, if this fails you will have lots of ice built up around the cooling fins and sometimes on the fan. Pull the back off the inside of the freezer and check for ice build up around the cooling fins, there should be none or very little if its running normal.

2) Bad door gasket - if the freezer door is leaking warm moist air inside the freezer it could be condensing around the fan causing ice (you will also see ice build up on things inside your freezer too).

3) Plugged drain - the drain leads from the freezer down to the drain pain under the fridge. If this is plugged ice will build up on the bottom of the freezer and potentially around the fan.

Water underneath the freezer section

Please check for the water passage beneath the freezer. There will be a small pipe and there is a possibility that that pipe path is blocked with ice or dirt.

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. 10 yr old GE side by side: freezer is leaking

Your drain is frozen up and so every time unit goes into defrost the water refreezes in the freezer's bottom. You either have to shut fridge off completely and let it dethaw or use hot water and an ice pick to hurry up the process. The drain is located in the very back of freezer. You will have to pull out the bottom drawer to see it. Good luck

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

Ice build up under the freezer drawer

drain is blocked. remove back panel inside freezer and melt the ice off at the bottom with a hairdryer then follow up with hot water till drain flows freely. if fault reoccurs, then you may have a fault with the defrost system
