Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens obstructed errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Sony cyber shot dsc h200 lens is stuck, will not take pictures. says to turn off and turn on again, but does not work.

Hi Susan,
If you cannot find the power button, just simply remove the battery wait for few seconds and put the battery back. What I assume of this behavior is 'If the coming out lens is obstructed by anything' the camera will show such error. If it does again, I would suggest calling Sony and getting their advice. Regards

Kodak easyshare c1450 lens stuck open lens obstructed

You need to remove the batteries and remove the memory card. Then reinstall the batteries. Finally, press and hold the "ok" button, the power on the camera. This is a factory reset trick. It fixes approximately 40% of all error messages on the KODAK EASY SHARE CAMERAS. But of course, no one is gonna be kind enough to help somebody out, they just want to take your money!

Lens obstructed- rem lens cap error kodak z990

"Lens obstructed, remove lens cap." This is the message the camera states. My camera does the same thing. It is refurbished. The camera was only used a couple of times and the problem started just as the 90 day warranty ran out. I suspect this is a common problem and these cameras should have been thrown away instead of selling them. It seems that it is not a " stuck lens problem".It seems to be an electronic problem rather then a mechanical one. Has anyone fixed this issue? Has anyone contacted Kodak for a price?

Kodak digital camera z990 lens obstructed remove lens cap

It seems that many people think that sending a camera back to the manufacturer is helpful. Most of us want help to fix it ourselves. If it is under warranty most know enough to send it back. If it is out of warranty the repair cost for most problems is more then it cost to replace it.

Lens obstructed..daughter got camera for birthday ...still under warranty...what can I do to get it fixed?

First contact Kodak to see if they'll honor warranty repair. But if they don't, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems (lens obstructed on Kodaks) can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Does the Nikon S8100 seem to have more lens error problems than other cameras?

Not really. It's extremely common on all similar designs from all manufacturers which have retracting/zooming lenses. The trick is to try and prevent the lens from ever being obstructed and to keep the camera in a camera case whenever it's not in use. Also avoid sand/beaches or similar areas as the camera isn't designed to cope with dirt which can get inside due to wind or being dropped.

None are robust, if they fail under warranty they get fixed or replaced. Outside of that you either fix it yourself or bin it and buy another as professional repairs usually cost more than buying another model.

I dropped my camera now whenever i turn it on it say 'lense obstructed how do i fix it???

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.
