Viewsonic PJ556d shuts down after 30-60 seconds

Projector has 1800 hours on bulb. Unit will turn on for about 60 seconds and then shut down. Lamp light turns red and indicates an overheating issue. How can this be overheating only after 60 seconds. Bulb works as picture is clear for the short time it is on.

I have the same problem, but the unit is brand new. Bulb barely used. Sometimes it won't turn on at all, but will just have the amber flashing light.

I had the same issue last summer (6/2008). It was barely still under one year warranty. I sent it in, they repaired and I it got another 7 months out of it and now it's doing the same thing. Most likely a component is overheating, either send in for repair or replace.

Same issue with model vs14295. I built on what mrb2981 wrote. I took apart the unit but instead of tightening the screws (you really have to strip this to the bone to get to the heat sync) I removed them to check under the heat sync. I'm glad I did that because the Thermal Grease was totally gone. Hopped downstairs to the electronic store and picked up a huge syringe of it for under $5.00. Put a nice layer on but not too much so that it didn't gush out the sides. Then reassembled the unit. I've been using it for the past 2 or 3 hours without a hitch.

My solution sounds dumb, I had the same issue. Took the lamp cover off the bottom. The screws were loose holding in the lamp. Maybe they heat and expand and eventually work their way out and the lamp doesn't make good contact. Just tightened mine up, the unit would power off after 45 minutes prior. Been on now for 5 hours, no trouble.

I have a viewsonic pjd5111 when plugged in and try to turn on both the temp and lamp light glow orange, the projector tries to come on I can hear the fans come on but the projector lamp does not come on,...

Unfortunately, the PJD5111 is indicating that the lamp has overheated. If you wait 45 minutes for the projector to cool down and these lights still come on, then the unit has an internal failure. The failure may be in the temperature sensor or that circuit. If the projector is still under warranty or on a maintenance plan, contact the dealer.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I have a BenQ PB 6210. After switching it on, it first displays that the lamp has run 2001 hours and should be replaced. After this window disappears, it takes maybe 2 seconds and the projector shuts...

Hi cholthusen,

Please be informed that the average lifespan of a projector's lamp is around 2000 hours. The light bulb is almost certainly the problem. The best solution would be to change the bulb. The easiest way to do that is to change the lamp assembly (fresh bulb is in the new assembly). You may also try resetting the unit. Turn the unit off, then physically remove the power cord. wait for about 10-15 seconds then start it back again. If this did not work, please replace the lamp.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Model PJ556D will run for a few minutes and then shuts off. Once it cools down it will start back up, but shuts off again a few minutes later.

Hello, Greg.

The most common reasons are the temperature is too high or the ventilation holes are blocked.

Unplug the AC power cord, wait 5 or 10 minutes then turn back on.

There could be dust or the air filter needs to be changed.

Take the lamp cover off the bottom. It's possible that the screws holding the lamp are loose.

Hope this helps.

The projector would not shut down...it was not

if the lamp shuts off and the projector still runs, it's a cool down mode, and will shut off when it reaches a low enough temp. if the lamp doesn't shut off and none of the keys work, the keypad may be faulty. or locked. some projectors have a keypad lock feature that makes it so only the remote can be used. check your manual for keypad lock/unlock.
