I have TI30XIIS & need to use negative exponents to solve physics problems but can't figure out how to do this. Ex. finding velocity of electron with v=square root of 2(1.5 x 10to the neg.16) with that product divided by 9.1 x 10 to the neg.31 Please help.

For 9.1x10^(-31): type 9.1 [EE] [(-)] 31. Here [(-)] is the change sign key.

How to solve an equation with negative exponent

You probably want to calculate the numerical value of some mathematical expression with numbers raised to negative exponents.
Just enter the expression as you would with positive exponents Except that before entering the value of an exponent press the change sign key, marked (-), or +/- or (+/-). Do not confuse the change sign with the usual minus sign, which is usually displayed bigger then the change sign. Make sure that the (-) is displayed before the value of the exponent. Use parentheses if necessary.

Hi there, i have the same problem with the Casio fx 83ES. Simple Sums difficult without Exp?

The Enter Exponent key may be marked as x10^x. It is in the last row of keys, near the =/EXE. To enter a negative exponent use the change sign key (-), not the minus key for subtractions.

HOW CAN I GET AN EXPONENT FROM TI-84 EX: B

You cannot use a letter as an exponent, unless you stored a numerical value in memory B (EX: 3 [STO>] [ALPHA] B stores value 3 in B)
For any numerical value of exponent ( positive, negative, integer, fraction, what have you) you use the general power key, marked with a caret [^] under the [CLEAR] key.

Example: To enter 15 to power 5
Type in 15
Press [^] key
Type in the value of the exponent (5) and press [ENTER]
You get 759375 as result.

It still gives me an incorrect answer. In the calculator I am trying to solve: 1.0*10 -14power / 3.3 *10 -12 power. The answer it gives me is 3.03 *10 to the -27 power. That is an incorrect answer. The...

Apparently you're calculating 1x10^-14 / 3.3x10^12
Note the positive exponent on the denominator. Make sure you use the (-) key to enter a negative exponent.

I don't know how to multiply by a negative exponent. ex: 10(-8) ....the -8 is the exponent.

Press [2nd][,] to activate (EE) which appears on screen as a lower case E, enter the change sign (-) right of the [dot] on the bottom row of keys, enter the value of the exponent.
Ex: Enter Avogadro's number of Generalk Chemistry fame
6.02[SHIFT][,] (EE) (-)23
Here is screen capture of what it will look like.

Where is the exponent bottom?

the exponent button looks like ^ push that and type in the number. For some equations and also negative numbers you may have to put parentheses.

Decimals in the exponents for TI-30Xa

Hi,
You have a key labeled [Y to the x], use it for all the powers or roots that do not have a dedicated key or key sequence. Let the key be [^]

Ex: 13.675 to the power 1.33 is entered as 13.675 [^] (1.33) [=].
The result is 32.41778634
Ex: (-64)[^](2/3) [=] gives 16 as result. The (-) is the change sign key
Ex: (2.87655)^(-6.778) is entered as 2.87655 [^] ( (-) 6.778 ) [=] 0.0007758
The (-) is the change sign (or the negative of), not the regular minus. When you have a negative exponent or a complicated exponent, it is safer to enclose the whole exponent inside parentheses.

Hope it helps.
