I have a lift Master Model 2280 garage door opener. At times it works perfect other times it will stop going up or down. Sometimes while it is not being used the lights will go off and then come back on of their own accord. If I tap or push on the rear of the unit(where the board is located) I can cause the lights to flash on and off or off and on. Any suggestions?

Sounds like loose connections. Unplug, remove the cover and be sure all connections are tight and secure. While doing this be sure there are no burnt connections or burns on the PCB. Replace cover, plug in and it should be OK.

SOURCE: Lift-Master garage door opener stopped working

The motor will probably need rewinding.
Professional job. Don't forget to take the condensor with the motor.
Or alternatively, if money isn't a problem,, get somebody out to look at it.
There ya go:)

Sears Garage Door opener lifts part way and stops. Connected to rail or not. Sensor circuits are working. I read that the RPM sensor would cause this if it's going down but this one is stopping while...

On the rear of the motor unit you will find the 'up force' adjustment. Increase this about 1/4 turn and try. It is also a good time to remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and it will be obvious if it is going bad. A bad RPM sensor will cause the door to stop when the door is opening and reverse to the open position when closing.

MY LIFT MASTER 1245 IS HUMMING AND GARAGE DOOR STOP HALF WAY DOWN LIGHT BLINKS

If the main light is blinking 10 times check your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Check your door springs to make sure one hasn't broken. Then remove the cover off the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is going bad.

Liftmaster Professional Line 1.5 hp won't open the garage door

Sounds like a bad spring or the drive gear is going bad. Take a good look at the springs above the door. It is sometimes hard to tell when one is broken. Remove the cover and look at the gear. It is obvious when this is going bad.

Garage Opener Model 3255 Chamberlain Lift Master

The most common cause of this problem is a bad wall control the wiring going to it. You can eliminate both temporarily by removing the wire at terminal 1 on the back of the motor unit. The wiring sometimes is shorted by the staples the installer uses. The wall control gets used a lot.

Not working

IT MAY BE AGAINST THE TRAVEL LIMITER BOLT.

IF IT IS YOU WILL NEED TO UNPLUG THE UNIT REMOVE THE COVER AND TURN THE MOTOR BY HAND TO BACK OFF THE PRESSURE.

MAKE SURE YOU GO PAST THE LIMIT SWITCH.
ADJUST THE LIMIT SO TH DOOR DOES NOT HIT THE BOLT.
