Memory card error could it be the little battery

Just switching off and on is not enough. You could try one step further. After switching off, remove the battery and memory card for a little while just a few seconds should be enough.
To make sure the memory card is still working, put it in an external memory card reader and look on the computer you still have pictures on it. If the card gives an error in the computer, try recover software, to retrieve your pictures. If the card looks ok, replace the memory card and the battery and switch on again.
But also make sure the battery is charged.
If after this still the same error occurs you should visit a repair centre, or start saving for a new camera.

If this happens with the second time, great chance it has nothing to do with the card(s). Your camera should be capable of handling all SD cards. So SD, SDHC and SDXC cards.
But perhaps something came in the memory card holder of your camera. Just a little piece of paper or dust? Please check if all the contacts in the camera are clean and shiny.
Then there is a warning in the manual, about the batteries you can use.
A list of batteries, if used can damage the memory card, because these batteries can't deliver enough power to make writing on a memory card reliable. The warning is on page 14 of the (English) manual. Only one type of battery can be used. Only Ni-MH rechargeable batteries should be used. Although the manual says Alkaline should go to, I have to advice against that. because they too can give less power, in certain situations (like in cold environments)
The memory cards that gave these error messages, should be checked in an external memory card reader on a computer. And when they are connected, please give them a format there (FAT32)
If you had the wrong batteries in the camera, after putting in fully charged NI-MH batteries, you could try to format the cards in the camera too.

If the camera displays Memory card error or No Memory Card when a memory card is inserted or any of the above error messages, make sure that the card is inserted properly. If this is the case, you may wish to Format the memory card in the camera using the Setup Menu option [Format] as shown below. Please be aware that formatting the memory card will remove any images currently stored on the card along with any other data. This can also be caused when images shot with another camera are stored on the memory card.
If after formatting the card in the camera the error persists, try another memory card. If this occurs with only the one card it is likely that the memory card is defective, if the error persists over more than one card the camera may require service. If the card appears to be defective you may wish to contact the memory card manufacturer.

A couple of things you might want to try the little lock on the side of the memory card should be in the unlock position. If you are still getting the error message then shut off the camera and remove the battery and the memory card. Insert the battery after about ten seconds should and install the memory card then turn the camera back on. Format the card in the camera NEVER format the card in your computer, format the card over deleting single images. If this camera is new, new then you should have the instruction manual or may be called the owners manual look for formatting instructions, every digital camera has a format feature to clean the memory card. Now if all this still doesn't work you may need to update your camera software. My Canon Pro camera gave me a headache when I went from a 4 gig to an 8gig card it just wouldn't acknowledge I even had a card in the slot. However you may just need to hard boot it after switching the memory card to the unlock position. Don't forget to format the card. Robert

It may have to be unlocked in the camera settings. My phone has a lock feature for photos, to prevent accidenta erasing.

Card lock means that someone switched the little gray sliding lock on the memory card. It prevents the camera from saving new pictures to AND copying pictures from the card. All you have to do is take the card out and slide the little gray slider back into the unlocked position. Take the card out of the camera. On the side of it is a little 'switch'. Flip the switch in the opposite 'unlock' position
1)check the card to make sure the write protect switch isn't on the wrong setting. It's on the side of the Secure Digital card (not memory stick).

2) I hope you're not buying Memory Stick. That's for Sony. You should be buying support digital.

3) Check the card contacts--if the card isn't making good contact in-camera, you'll get hold of card errors. This happens when someone touches the contacts on the card. Usually cleaning will work unless something sticky get on it. Most memory cards do have exposed contacts, so you enjoy to be careful when handling them ...

4) Format the card in the camera if you grasp an error message. It may just entail to be formatted.Your battery is always drain quickly, that’s symptom of the battery near to run out.,it’s better to change it, your owner's manual say that Lithium AA's will work well and later almost as long.

The likely problem is that the BIOS battery (NOT the rechargeable Lithium battery) has run low. This tiny, internal battery can be replaced without too much trouble by someone who doesn't mind disassembly of small parts, otherwise it's best left to a pro.

The battery is available from Canon or an official distributor, such as Huron Camera in Jackson, Michigan.

oh i know where it is: if you open the thing at the bottom of your camera where the battery and memory card goes, next to the memory card place to put it there is a little hole you probably need the end of a paper clip or something like that and then put it there(you hear a little click sound) and then you hold it there for 10 sec and then take the battery and memory card out and then count to ten and then put only the battery back in. and then start your camera and it should be fine. it micht have been the memory card. this happened to me and then it kept on doing it and i tryed everything even reseting it and now it doesnt even turn on! i know its not the battery because if it was the battery then it would flash that blue light to show that it needs charging but ive tried everything and it still doesnt work.=(

I thought the cards have a little tab on them so they can be "write protected" it is a little plastic tab on the side of the memory card you slide up and down. I know most SD cards have it, CF cards dont so if its anything besides SD memory its probobly the memory card or some little switch or somthing in the camera that tells the camera when the card is in the "Locked" or "Write protected" mode. Looking at my SD memory cards they have a little arrow on the edge and they say "Lock" pointing down, the slider is up. Move yours both ways, maybe it has a bad connection in the card (im not sure what it actualy does) or its in a position the camera thinks its locked?
