SOURCE: Dehumidifier not sure is working

There is water in the bucket or no water in the bucket? If there is water in the bucket then empty it and put it back. If there is no water in the bucket then make sure the bucket is all the way in, (there is a switch that senses the bucket). If the bucket is not all the way in the de-humidifier will not work. If you do not hear it, it is not working.

SOURCE: Kenmore dehumidifier M/N 580.53650200 only runs for about 1 min

Well to knowledge the problem 40 percent is dry. means your basement is great. humidity should be 30/50 percent 50 grows mold. also if it runs for a min the auot shut off is activating. check this first.

I have an lg dehumidifier model # LHD65EBLY8. The bucket is full light keeps coming on even though it is empty. Because of this, it will not stay on and my basement keeps flooding. Do you have any...

booklover, if the the bucket is not properly installed, the unit will not turn ON. If you remove the bucket and look at the left top corner it, you will see a float device arm. It that's stuck in the UP position, jiggle the handle, so it will return to the DOWN position. In addition, that handle must make contact with the bucket removal safety switch, if not the bucket is improperly installed and the unit will not start.

Since you are using this unit in a basement, I highly recommend that you raise the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc. that can handle the weight if the unit, plus a full bucket of water. As the air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. The coils on your model will start to freeze at 60 degrees F and affect it efficiency, Because it is not a Low Temperature model designed for basement applications.

In addition to the dehumidifier, you would be wise to install a sump pump, if your basement floods as bad as you made it sound. Combining a sump pump with a dehumidifier will guarantee a dry basement, all the time.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

What can I do to prevent my Dehumidifier from building up a heavy coating of frost over all the condensing tubes. The dehumidifier is currently located in the basement.

The frost is requried for the unit to do it's work. The unit should routinely turn off and the ice should melt. without this process no water would be removed from the air....

Works well but

Yup, they eat energy.

An electric dehumidifier includes a refrigeration cycle that is very similar to a window AC units and refrigerators. They cool the air in the basement to condense and collect water and remove humidity, heat the air as a required consequence of the refrigeration cycle and dump it back to your basement.

Two sources of humidity in basements include warm outside air that naturally cools due to below grade earth contact and water passing from the ground though the floors and walls and evaporating into the basement. Dehumidifiers do most of the work in the summer when higher temperatures outside enable air to hold more water content.

In the winter, cooler outside air contains less moisture by weight eventhough it may be raining and the relative humidity in basement will be less because the air is warmed relative to the outside. The lower moisture content in the winter also absorbs the water passing through the walls and floor.

From an energy perspective, you may want the humidity set NOT below 50%. This will keep humidity below the level mold desires, but prevents the dehumidifier from doing more work and eating more energy than needed. A cheap battery powered temp/humidy meter left in your basement will help. Sources that include the "mold triangle" (temperature, water & food) often separate fact from expensive hype.

If the dehumidifier doesn't keep up, consider adding a moisture barrier to the basement walls and floors such as Dry-lock and floor paints to ****** moisture entry. Moisture barriers act very similar with water as insulation does with heat. They don't eliminate the need for a dehumidifier, but they reduce the work they do and energy they eat.

Dehumdifier won't drain

You just need to get the water flowing and start the siphoning process by taking out the water bucket while it's full of water and raising it up high enough to start the water flowing. Once the water starts flowing, you can put the bucket back and the water will keep flowing (by capillary action). If the bucket empties completely, you may have to do it again periodically to get the water flowing again.

P1 and P2 error codes

Danby's Consumer Help Line (1-800-263-2629) is always busy. So, I called their General number: 419-425-8627. The receptionist transferred my call to their Service dept. My call was answered in 2 minutes.

The Service Rep. described the following code for my dehumidifier model (DDR657EE):
P1 = Defrosting: the unit will go into Defrost mode periodically to ensure that the parts are working at the right operating temperature. It should be in Defrost (P1) mode for only a brief period of time. If the unit is in Defrost (P1) mode continuously for a couple of hours (or more), then you should call Danby Service for further assistance.

He had no documentation of a P2 code for my model.

He also described other General Codes (applicable to most Dehumidifier/Humidifier models):
E1 = Not enough water
E2 = Not draining
E3 = Water temperature too cool
E4 = Overflow Switch activated
E6 / E7 = Problem with Temperature Sensor

I hope that helps.

Dehumidifer seems to run constantly

With that low of a setting it will most likely be kicking in alot more often. Most people run their dehumidifiers between 60-65%. It is a matter of preference. Also some basements hold out moisture more than others. There could be alot of variables affecting this. One thing you need to make sure is that you have the correct placement. Make sure you dont keep it near the sump pump or any other standing water because those areas have more humidity due to the water being there. Also make sure it is not in an area like a laundry room because when your washing machine despenses water it is despensing moisture into the air. I try to keep it at a central location if at all possible and away from areas that have water. If you found this solution helpful please rate it when you get a chance. Thanks - Tech101
