What is the wep key

A WEP key is a security code used on some Wi-Fi networks. WEP keys allow a group of devices on a local network (such as a home network) to exchange encoded messages with each other while hiding the contents of the messages from easy viewing by outsiders. A WEP key is a sequence of hexadecimal digits. These digits include the numbers 0-9 and the letters A-F. Some examples of WEP keys are:
  • 1A648C9FE2
  • 99D767BAC38EA23B0C0176D15
WEP keys are chosen by a network administrator. WEP keys are set on Wi-Fi routers, adapters and other wireless network devices. Matching WEP keys must be set on each device for them to communicate with each other. The length of a WEP key depends on the type of WEP security (called "encryption") utilized:
  • 40- / 64-bit WEP: 10 digit key
  • 104- / 128-bit WEP: 26 digit key
  • 256-bit WEP: 58 digit key

What is a wep key?

In Shared Key authentication, the WEP key is used for authentication. A four-way challenge-response handshake is used:
  1. The client station sends an authentication request to the Access Point.
  2. The Access Point sends back a clear-text challenge.
  3. The client has to encrypt the challenge text using the configured WEP key, and send it back in another authentication request.
  4. The Access Point decrypts the material, and compares it with the clear-text it had sent. Depending on the success of this comparison, the Access Point sends back a positive or negative response.

My printer is asking for a WEP key. I do not kno where to find this.

The WEP is the password that will let your computer access your secure wireless network. Look at the back of your router. There should be a sticker that has the WEP key on it. It is a long code of numbers and letters. Type that code in when it asks for the key

What is a wep key on psp

a wep key is the security code for ur wireless network, If you have never altered it then it would be the default code... normally this is found on the reverse or underside of the wireless router. There is no wep key actually on the psp.
If no wep key or wireless security key is found on the router, check with your internet service provider.

Setting for wireless d- link router for my laptop

WEP key is usually found on the back of the router or the side of the box the router came in. When the router is connected and you see there is a signal by the LED lights, click on the internet connection icon on the lower right of your screen. Select the proper wireless device to which you wish to connect. It will tell you that you need a WEP key. Enter the 10 digit code on the back of the router. If it asks for a 12 digit code, simply add two zeros to the beginning of the WEP key. Hope this helps!

Hello,
With each new router comes a new WEP KEY by default this could be found normally on the back of the router/access point near the bar code it should have something like this:

If you don't find this sticker or don't have it just reset the router or connect by cable go to the web interface and copy or change the WEP Key there defined.
