Hi I have a Belkin USB 4 port switch. I used this device to connect my imac computer and my wife's PC to a MFC Brother printer. When either of us needed to print we just switched the Belkin to the channel our computer was connected to and we were able to print. We purchased a new computer a Brother HL-5340. We could not get the computers to recognise the new hardware and then we tried connecting without the Belkin. That fixed the problem but now we have to physically connect individually to the printer when we want to print. Is there a Belkin product that will work with this printer as this product did for our last printer? Brian Robertson

Hi brianandmarj, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Do your computers have ethernet networking capability ?
    If yes !
You could use one of thesehttp://www.tp-link.com/ca/products/detai...
To convert usb2 for the hl-5340 to ethernet and then feed the ethernet into a 6 port network switch that you also plug all the computers into.
Then give the Ethernet to USB2 adapter an ip address and each computer an ip address unless its getting this from a DHCP server in your router and then set up each p.c for the printer to print to this ip address in the printer port settings.

Please advise of further info. All the connected PC's are running on XP. One is not connecting to the network. Sounds like the "Local Area Network" setting needs to be set for "Automatically assign an IP". Go to the start menu, select "Run" and type in "CMD". Type "IPCONFIG" and enter. This will display your network setting and IP address. If there is no IP address, then you will enever have a connection. If the IP address is listed, it will display a unique IP address, a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and the ip address of the gateway. Please respond with any further.

SOURCE: Wireless Router use with Wildblue Satelite Modem

You should be aware of a class action lawsuit that Belkin and the complaintent settled recently. The lawsuit was filed complaining that certain Belkin routers did not obtain optimal speeds as advertised.
Belkin has agreed to provide affected customers a discount program to purchase a new router. You will need to search elsewheres for the details.

SOURCE: restored factory settings on pc & cant re -instal belkin adaptor

The Belkin site has very specific instructions for installing this adapter in a pc with Vista. These instructions are at: http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D9050&aid=6112&scid=0
I would first unistall any Belkin Software that has already been installed, shut down the system completely and then restart. After you have fully restarted the system then follow the Belkin Site instructions EXACTLY. Any variation is apt to mean an unsuccessful install. Good Luck and have patience.

I need to connect my computer to my Brother MFC 5860 computer; however, I cannot find the connection point on the computer

Hi,
First, you need a cable similar to this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F3U133-10-Hi-Speed-Cable-Feet/dp/B00004Z5M1

The rectangular/narrow goes to your computer. You can find one of those in the back of your computer. Some have front USB ports too but I'll save that for cameras, cellphones and such
Good Luck

Hi I have a new brother printer and it was working fine. I have gone to use it again and it keeps saying the printer is offline...yet I have registered again and everything is the same. Help

check that the printer cable is inserted fittingly, on the computer and on the printer, if alright, change the port from which the printer cable is connected,am assuming it is usb. if still not responding, turn off the printer, reboot the computer, and turn it on, if it fails, unplug the printer from the computer and uninstall the driver. reboot the computer and reinstall, while installing, it may prompt you to plug it in. if it does not, do not worry, just plug the printer cable after the installation is through, the computer should recognize a new device and go on to auto install, if it does not, then you have bad usb port port or controller drivers. to be certain, plug any other usb device onto the port(s), if positive, buy a new usb card and install on computer and connect printer

My brother mfc 5840cn won't install on my new laptop which has windows 7 my old laptop was xp

Brother has not released a printer driver specifically for Windows 7 and this model. You can however use a basic printer driver if the Windows Update feature of your operating system is set to "automatic:"

To set Windows Update to automatic, perform the following: (if you know it already is set to automatic, you may skip these steps)

1) Click "Windows Icon" (Start button) on taskbar

2) From the "Search Programs and Files" box type "change device installation" and start search

3) Click "Change device installation settings" - the Device Installation Settings window opens

4) If it is not already selected, select "Yes, do this automatically (recommended)"

5) Click "Save changes"

Now you are ready to have Windows search for and install the generic printer driver for your model. Your computer must be connected to the internet in order to complete this installation.

Note: If you have previously connected the USB cable, disconnect it from the computer and printer for now.

1) Power on your printer

2) Now connect the USB cable to the back of the printer, then to a USB port on the back of your computer (not to a USB hub or keyboard port)

3) Windows should now automatically search for and install the latest driver for your printer.

4) The "Your devices are ready to use" message may come up on your screen upon completion. You may have to click "Close [X]" to close this window.

You should now have a basic driver installed for your model of printer.

Take mfc from power outlet and disconnect from usb port. Run the above mentioned procedures and reinstall the drivers again. When asked, replug mfc to power again.
Connect the usb cable directly to pc!!!!!!

If you run mac I cant give you an adivece yet, because I m not common to mac os yet (end of year I will know better cause will get an imac then, sorry!)

PC won't detect MFC-210C Printer

TRY THIS, remove or uninstall the printer from your computer and turn it off.

Now, before you switch back ON the computer, remove the USB connection of your printer.

When the computer is done loading. Install the Printer using the CD that comes with the printer.

When the installer ask you to insert the USB connection of the printer,
that's the only time you should insert it to the USB port... switch ON the printer... Installation should proceed smoothly until completed.

That should solve your problem
