Samsung HT-BD2R 7.1 Channel Blu-ray Home Theatre System Theater System Logo

Firmware upgrade Hi The samsung player i have is labelled a HT BD2 without the "R" - so i hope you can still help me with my problem. I am in Australia and the player is region 4 dvd and region B blu ray. New blu ray discs are being released with new features on them that require firmware profile 1.1 or higher. The player is 1.0 only. I have read on some sites that the movie should play in 1.0 player just not the new features. This is not the case. Aussie version of Scorpion King 2 will not play at all. States it needs 1.1 or higher for the new features.... So, my question is - when will there be an upgrade for this player? OR - is there a work around on the blu ray disc to get it to work? Thanks Michael

I have upgraded the player to the latest firmware version and this issue is still not resolved. As I understand the profile 1.0 should still be able to play the movies on the disc, however I get horrible purple squares (like noise) all over the screen as if the player can not properly decode the disc.

It seems that this player is being sold in stores without any warning that it might be incompatible with most blu ray discs on sale (and therefore completely useless).

How can I connect my PS3 to the HT BD2 and get it to play dolby digital or dts audio? Thanks

Use an optical cable and then it should work just fine. Just saw Avatar from my PS3 through the Samsung HT-BD2 and the sound was excellent.
So go and buy an optical cable :)
My problem is to get the BD2 to download updates. It doesn´t seem to work for me.

NEED TO UPGRADE MY HT-BD2 SYSTEM

There are two ways to approach this. You can either download the update from Samsung's support page, burn it onto a CD, place the CD into your Blu-Ray player and let the update load...or you can connect your Blu-Ray player to the internet and let the player download and install the update automatically.

For the first approach, the upgrade file can be downloaded by clicking on the following link:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=us&CttFileID=2149020&CDCttType=FM&ModelType=N&ModelName=HT-BD2&VPath=FM/200903/20090318095607437/081227_01_HT_BD2_XAA.zip

...and the instructions to installing the file on your system can be found here:

http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=us&CttFileID=2149021&CDCttType=FM&ModelType=C&ModelName=HT-BD2&VPath=FM/200901/20090109105847140/HT-BD2_System_Upgrade_by_CD_Method.pdf

The second approach is detailed in the HT-BD2 User's Manual (pages 46-49). It requires you to first plug a network cable into the back of your Blu-Ray home theater unit, then connect the other end into a LAN connection on your wall (or into the back of your cable/DSL modem) Page 26 of the user's manual shows you how to make the connection.

Blu-Ray disc does not play.

You need a software upgrade. If your blu-ray is lan connected you can upgrade from the blu-ray, just follow the menu. If you have no internet connection, use your PC. On the manufacturers web site find your model and download a firmware update to cd, then play this in your blu-ray, follow the on screen menu. Good luck

Region codes

While looking through some forum posts i found the way to fix the problem. It takes a bit of fiddling around but it does work... I tried it out last night.

Firstly you need to put a DVD of a different region into your player and wait for it to start to read the DVD before you commence the procedure... it takes a bit to get the timing right.

when the DVD can't be read it, on screen Eject Disc will come up

Press Repeat & Hold 3 Seconds (it may work using either repeat button on the bottom, i tried both.

Press 76884
After entering those 5 digits, you should see a number in the top left corner of the screen corresponding to the current region (4 being Australia region)

Press 9 for "auto-region" mode ie. Region Free
Turn Off Machine
and there you have it. The timing is crucial so start trying as soon as the DVD is in. It took me 5 goes before it worked.

You will notice that it may take a bit longer for the other Region DVDs to be read then normal but it's only a few seconds longer.
