When opening microwave door, microwave is running

Yes, a bad door interlock switch would cause this; either the top switch or the bottom switch. (The middle switch is called the Monitor switch. If it were bad, you microwave would blow fuses as soon as you press Start.)

If your microwave continues to be running when you open up the door or when the door is open it could be an issue with the doors interlock switch. A proper functioning door switch provides the power to other components on the microwave and should interrupt power when the microwaves door is opened. The microwave will have to be repaired.

First, It is very very dangerous for a microwave to run with door open. The door is also a shield to protect you from the microwave radiation. There should be a safety interlock to prevent this from happening. DO NOT USE the microwave! Seek out professional repair or replace the unit.

From my understanding your Frigidaire microwave is running when the door is opened. I have identified a few possibilities could be the control panel or your door. Since it could be any one of these underlying issues I would recommend having a professional come and properly diagnose your appliance. -Matt

I'd say the door interlock switch has failed, and supplies a connection when it should not. Microwave ovens can be dangerous to anyone poking around inside, even when unplugged, so get a quote from a service tech. You might find that parts+labour is almost as much as a new one.

Microwave radiation being released through an open door is also a hazard, as it is known to cause eye cataracts, so don't get near if the oven does this.

The cooling fans run for a time after the magnatrons have stopped, The magnatrons are the heating components so I dont think you are in any danger as the microwave doors are double locked so the magnatrons cant run once the door is open

your door switch is mis-adjusted,furthermore the other safety switch on the door should have blown the power fuse in the unit,because by design for safety it produces a short circuit if door opens under operation,so if door was taken off and replaced it was not adjusted properly

This is probably a a bad door switch or door switch mount. Chances are only the fan and light are running when you open it, but better safe than sorry. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure but not the only one.
