Hello Murphy, This is no easy repair by any means at all. All of these series of Kodaks suffer from this failure, I know because I repair these cameras. The cost to repair far exceeds the cost of a good used replacement camera. Sorry for the bad news, sell it on E-Bay for parts at about $20.00 plus shipping.
Best Regards, Russell

While trying to fix this problem today I discovered something that seems to help, at least in my case. If I push down on the small button located below the joystick/onoff button, while also tapping the OK button, the camera responds to the OK. (This is the display/info button.) I'm not sure why this works or whether it would help in every case, but it would be worth a try. I've been able to finally set my date and make other changes necessary after recharging my battery.

took back of camera off 6 screws, and found wheel had skipped ofer plastic range limeters. took small screwdriver and popped them over limeters wile twisting. wheel works now but joystick does not work. also wheel spins but functions do not work.
SOURCE: my joystick only work up down and right
I had the same problem. I took my Z760 apart and put in a joystick from a used Z760. But the problem is that the joystick comes unglued from the small computer board. Take it apart and put a tiny drop of superglue on the joystick. Use a magnifier to line up the two little tabs in the proper holes. It should work fine.

It sounds like it could be a couple of different things but it will be hard to tell without having the camera right in my hands. First you might want to check to see if you have a SD card in the cmaera. The internal memory may be full of your images and there is no room for anymore. If you have a sd card already in the camera then make sure it is not over 2gb. That model will only accomodate a 2gb card and nothing more.
Hope this helps
