Start by trying to drain the power from the laptop. To do this, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery. Next, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Then plug your battery & AC adapter back in and try to power on the laptop.
If the problem persists, try turning it on with the battery removed.
You can also try carefully removing the memory from the laptop (located in a covered compartment on the bottom of the laptop that is usually user-accessible with a screwdriver) to see if it will stay on longer than a second.
