Question about HP Pavilion Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an HP Pavilion p6126f desktop and after shutting down the blue power light on top and on front remains on and I know is still powered up because my external harddrive remains on (light on WD passport). The only way I can power down is to unplug the computer. Running Vista 64 bit. Thanks for any help.

Old post, I do only 2018 posts)
first off why the huge contradiction even HP and ASUS mixed.
photo of laptop, and title, NOTEBOOK
and texting a Desktop, but must be a so i moved you....
p6126f PAVILION. it is. no monitor stated, at all. no errors show on monitor, like no signal?
the PC blue light means it thinks its one.
the fans must blow, both PSU and CPU or you have no 12vdc power.
the uSB ports have power, but that happens even with PC in standby mode, or even turned off, that is how I charge my cell phone PC off, using my USB ports,
what matters is:
1: monitor errors, seen
2: Fans.
3; you clicked shut down via what< windows, linux what?
if you CLICKED shut down and the fans don't go dead
that means your OS is corrupted. for sure.
top reasons are bad drivers, and vista can't shut down.
or worse. there is always that. (virus)

I'd DUMP vista, nobody on earth wants to help anyone with a dead vista , horrid VISTA, did you know MS in there great wisdom failed to add recovery mode to vista, yah sux, swap gas. that.
upgrade to w7 and end this silly mess called vista.
w7-64bit is best here, with full HP support seen here.

this is not spam, its the real HP, the place with no malware, etc.

SOURCE: Toshiba laptop reboots when on AC Power

I have the same problem with my Toshiba too, prima facie, it looks like Toshiba and Vista don't make a good combo. I suspected this to be a pure hardware problem, but was disproven when I booted in safe mode. It does not have any problems with the AC Power on in Safe mode.

SOURCE: my computer will turn on fine but if u leave it

Sounds like the problem could be heat related. Do you run your laptop in a pillow or blanket or anything like that? Make sure it's on a hard, flat surface.

Make sure the air intake and exhaust holes aren't blocked by anything (including excessive dust particles). You could try and get a "can of air" and spray out the dust if you suspect there is a lot (ie. in a dusty or smoky environment). Make sure there is warm air coming out the back of the notebook so you know it's exhausting the heat properly.

SOURCE: Hello, I have a problem

Unplug the computer and take out the battery.
Hold the power button for ten seconds.
Leave the battery out and plug in the power cord.
Press the power button.
If the computer turns on, put the battery and everything should now work.
This has solved every "laptop not turning on problem" for me and my friends.

As you have already troubleshooted a lot ... but i want you to check by replacing power-supply (SMPS) in most of the cases such problem are created by faulty smps. No doubt it's getting on but SMPS can create such problem. So check with that if haven't check for it.

Pull the power cord out and press the power button on the PC to drain the power for 10 seconds. Then plug the power cord back in and turn the computer on. If still does not work, then the power supply may be blown out and needs replacement.

Check all wires for loose connections--- if the memory was wrong or something, it would still attempt to boot but stop during the POST and start to beep

To wake it up,first try just quickly pressing the power switch on front. If worse comes to worse, just turn it off by holding the power button in until the pc shuts down & simply power it back on. Then you'll be able to get into windows & make the proper adjustments for the power settings you want & be able to configure the keyboard to put the pc to sleep or wake it. The above link is straight from hp,reguarding the same issue. I gave it to you for reference.

When I shut down my computer, I think that it is shutting down completly. All lights are off indicating that it is shut down. Then a small blue window will appear and will say "Entering Power Safe Mode"....

If you are turning off your computer by pressing the front panel power button, it is probably just putting Windows to sleep but not shutting the computer off. If your computer has Windows Vista, the default is to hibernate and not shut down even if you shut down through Vista. The "power save" message you see is coming from the monitor, which is letting you know it isn't getting a signal from the computer anymore but the power is still on. Windows will start up again from sleep mode if someone or something moves the mouse or presses a key.

The solution is to make sure the computer is actually shut down. In Vista you can do this by clicking the arrow near the power icon on the Start menu. This gives you the option of shutting down instead of hibernating. In XP, shut the computer down using the start menu shutdown option instead of the computer power button. Then the power will shut down completely.

PC shuts down while running Windows

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.

While powering up continuously hit F8.

You will get a Boot Option Menu, Select Safe-Mode boot

If you can get into safe-mode I would suggest to try doing an online scan, as it sounds like your issue could be related to malware:

You might want to check the CPU fan for dust and re-seat the RAM. I sounds more like a heat issue.
