On 7-27-11, I purchased TomTom VIA. On August 11 - 12 I went to www.tomtom.com/getstarted to install the program. When I got to the part about a Hot Fix I read the pages provided. Since I didn't understand either of the choices I was given And I was cautioned that if I removed the cable wrong my computer would crash, I was scared to go any farther. I didn't know how to get help so I went no farther with it until today when a window appeared on my screen telling me that I should install KB 959765. So I did. When I tried to log in later it didn't like the name or password or something. I don't wanrt to try tostart over with that information and get everything completely fouled up. I need to have a phone number to call, PLEASE. We will be taking a trip in about two hours and I wanted to give this little jewel a try. Marsha

I encountered the same problem too. Here's what you'll need to do. (FOR PC USER"S ONLY) Plug your tom tom until your computer recognizes the device.
1.)Go to "My Computer" and open your device "Tom tom". Look for your Maps folder it should say USA and CANADA and try not to forget other maps if any. Drag the folder to your desktop or copy it to your desktop
2.)Go to "My Computer"again and right-click your device "Tom tom" then go to format. (Attention) MAKE SURE TO DO A FULL FORMAT NOT A QUICK FORMAT!!! it should say FAT32. This should wipe out all the contents of your Tom tom.
3.)Go to "My computer" and open your device "Tom tom" and drag the USA and Canada map into "Tom tom" or copy the maps to "Tom tom".
4.) open Tom tom home and do your upgrades and install voices,routes and the other stuff. Disconnect the device and it should reboot itself, you will see the white screen for a brief second and the device should start normally. Good luck hope this helps. -Brizzo-

I am the original poster, rdsrds2, and after 4 go arounds with TomTom tech support I finally got someone who knew exactly what to do. My problem is solved. Some of the other solutions posted here may be equally valid. To all who are having installation problems, here is the download you want:

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice,probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.

I also had the same problem with the GO720 and the same iphone after a few tries and resetting it connected, but aftera few days of use it stops working again. I do not know if it is a Tom Tom or Iphone softwear problem. Have tried your way will see how it goes!
