    I
removed the old passive Ibanez pickups from RG 2EX2. I installed the EMG 81 and
60 but haven't rewired it yet. I have a 3 way in line switch. The killpot (25kOhms) will
replace the volume pot. I'm trying to save space since the control cavity
barely have space so only the parts for solderless kit are used, except volume,
and bus. I can use the Tone solderless pot but if it would be easier to just
use the old one then it's alright. I haven't removed anything from the tone pot
even the capacitor. Thank you for your time. :)

I left the wiring on the three way switch which includes ground, output, bridge, neck. Yes, I have all the wiring that came with it. I have placement on the battery, i tested it out and I was able to fit 2batts since im going for an 18v mod. Battery placement is manageable. Yessir, I have a soldering kit ready to use.

Looks good. Ill test it out. Here's my email address : [email protected]

  • andalis_a Sep 10, 2011

What happened in the end was, the killpot became a Tone control .. so I have 2 tone controls with no master volume. I don't know if that tiny blotch in the diagram is a Capacitor, the middle input in the kill pot.

Are you using the original solderless wiring? Are you starting from scratch? Are just wanting to install the Shadow pot into an already working guitar? If you are working on an already working guitar Please give the model number, if EMG equipped, So I know where and what we have to work with. But this should be a straight up fairly easy setup. The Shadow pot just replaces the normal volume pot. Off to work, but will be back with you.

Ok Im working on your diagram. Did you leave wiring on the three way switch or un-do it? You will need to use the 25 Ohm tone control not the old 5oo Ohm. Do you have the EMG kit all the wiring that comes with it or just the pickups. Have you decided where to put the battery, is that what you mean about not much room in the cavity? Are you ok with some soldering, if needed?

  • Anonymous Sep 10, 2011

Ok. here goes, this is a close as I can come with what you have told me you have. The Yellow wiring I added are really white wires in the EMG kit, the black lines are the ground wiring on the (A) terminal which is the kill circuit. The Kill switch is hard to see but if you have the instructions that came with it you should understand. The Loop side is the (F) terminal. See what you think. If you want it better I can e-mail it to you. Send your e-mail add.

Part of the diagram is cut off, right click it and save as, or right click and view image.

  • Anonymous Sep 10, 2011

Just redid the battery for 18 v. I think you understand anyway, but if you need the corrected version let me know.

  • Anonymous Sep 11, 2011

No caps on the volume, should be one on the tone. Thought that built in the Tone control pot from EMG. Will recheck and repost. Does the kill part work?

  • Anonymous Sep 11, 2011

There is no caps on the volume. My e-mail is not working cant send a new drawing I am posting the revised one here, right click and save as. Add a wire from the black on the Shadow kill switch to the open post on the kill switch pot. it will be a loop just like on the output white wires. That should fix it.

I have a Jackson Kelly and I just got new EMG pickups 81 85 no wiring diagram or installation guide

it you're replacing a passive pickups, you'll need to find a place for the battery (that'll be the hard part)
EMG specifies 25k pots, you might need those
plus a 'stereo' 1/4" output jack to switch the battery off when you unplug the guitar.
if you're not using the EMG routing bus (connector block thingie) yo want to wire it something like this

How do i wiring an active pickup and a passive pickup in same guitar

Not hard - just wire up one pickup and leave the other one alone. The active pickup will have wires that say "output + and - " - just use those to connect to the same place you would attach a passive pickup. Also, an active pickup will need space for a battery (9v). I weould consult EMG pickup installation for diagrams. You will also probably need to replace the guitar jack with a TRS, where the ring is a "killswitch" for the battery when the guitar is disconnected.

Try this diagram set: http://www.emgpickups.com/skin/frontend/emg-2013/default/pdfs/2-tw-2v-1t-only.pdf

Wire diagram samick gregg bennett guitar

Here is the wiring diagram for a 2 humbucker, 2 volume, 2 tone, 3-way switch setup. The wires off the pickup may be a little different. Just attach the lead wire to the arm of the pot and the ground to the ground on the top of the pot. Should be very strait forward.

I bought a yamaha electric it has two double pick ups and a single in the middle the volume knob was no good so i changed it when i opened it up they had the wiring all messed up it has a five pos. switch...

my guess is two positions at one end work(aka 1 and 2, or 4 and 5)? if yes, then 2 of the pickups are wired wrong. (if 1 and 2 work, which are the forward positions, then the middle and bridge pickup are wired wrong, etc.) the problem is there is a variety of 5way switches that are different. i would guess yours is "import" style. are there 8 lugs in a single row on the back of the switch? if yes, you probably have an import switch. best i can do in text is tell you that the middle two lugs are common. this means one goes to the volume pot, and there is probably a little jumper between the two lugs as well. now there are 3 lugs on either side of those 2 common lugs. one set of 3 will probably run to the tone pot in some fashion or be empty. the other set of 3 lugs is for the pickup lead wires. it sounds like at least one or two of those lugs are empty but shouldnt be, or are wired wrong. i cant tell you colors of your wires without seeing it, but this is how it should be, with the exception that the tone knob will probably be on the bottom 3 lugs somewhere. 1 would be the neck pickup, 2 the middle, and 3 the bridge hope this helps, feel free to post a pic of your wiring, etc xadioriderx.jpg

I have a dean vendetta xm and it wont make sound through an amp they wiring is correct (checked through diagram provided by dean)

If the wiring is correct on the guitar, try plugging it in to a different amp. If you still don't get any sound, the problem may be a faulty volume or tone potentiometer (or pot. The knob, for simpler words). These are fairly easy to replace if you know how to solder. If not, then watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLfXXRfRIzY

You can get the pots from Musician's Friend, Guitar Center, or any music store that carries guitar parts.

If that doesn't fix it, then the problem is in your pickups. You can get "aftermarket" pickups through the above mentioned dealers, and you're not restricted to the original pickups.

What you replace them with will affect your tone, so do some research before settling on a set of pickups. Active pickups will give you more gain (great for nu-metal and hi-gain applications) and have lower output noise, but they require batteries. Passive pickups have no need for batteries, but tend to produce slightly more noise and hum.

Hopefully, it's the pots. That will be the cheaper fix, since they run about $2-$4USD each. Pickups can range from $100-$500USD a set.

Hope that helps!

How to add a tone control to a Rare Earth humbucking acoustic pickup?

here is a diagram on how to add a tone control to humbuckers.

http://sthac.free.fr/pictures/sthac-HSH-wiring.jpg

for your set up, all u have to do is to do is wire the positive parallel form the pick-up or volume knob into the middle lead of the pot, wire the negative parallel to the casing of the pot, and put a .022- .033 ohm capacitor from the casing to the pot lead on the right, when viewed from the bottom. wiring parallel means "tapping into" the circuit, not rerouuting the circuit.
