Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

I've got a Sony STR-K880 Cinema surround system and the remote control won't work it anymore! The only thing it will do is turn the system off when I push the'AV I-O' button and the &#

I had the same problem. Found the fix in this document
STR-K880 service manual
On the amp, while powered off:
"While depressing the INPUT MODE button, press the POWER button to turn on the main power."
You may need to do this more than once.
This switches command mode between AV1 and AV2.

How can I plug my iPod into this stereo?

Least expensive way is thru a 1/8th" mini to RCA adapter into any of the Sony's audio inputs. If you want "Video" as well, that's another story. You would have to check with "Apple" to see if an adapter is available. No "Dock" port on the receiver. Hope this helps.

Fuse keeps poping, what other type of fuse can i buy for this, my model is STR-DE435 (sony)

If it keeps blowing the rated fuse you really need to take it in to a shop for further analysis. Using an incorrect, higher value fuse will only raise the risk of fire or more damage to whatever is blown in the unit.

Str de 435 I was watching a movie nothing was being moved when suddenly I heard the relay click the protector mode came on thank you

Relay click and Protect display indicates that receiver got problem in output amplifier section and most probably output chips got defective. This kind of problem is not user level repair and local repair shop will help you to get it fixed.
Thanks.

Can I hook up a photo turntable to a sony str-de435 receiver? There aren't any jacks that specifically say phono, so I'm wondering if I can just hook it up to any of the audio jacks without any problem....

If your turntable has an amplified output, go ahead and plug it in to the aux port. If not, you won't be able to use it with your receiver properly. Look on the back (or front) of your turntable for a knob labeled "level" or "volume", and that will determine if it's amplified or not. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Sony str-DE435 Flash Protector

this is not a reset problem, you have a defective audio output, is either the outputs transistors or the drivers IC's ( integrated circuit) and sometimes if you are lucky is just loose connections on the drivers IC;s.
good luck

Sony STR-DE435 Receiver

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

Sound turns off for Sony STR-DE875 amp

If you do not here a click as soon as the power is turned on, (note you must be in a very quite environment no noise absolutely to hear this) then the amplifier has blown output transistors which are pushing DC current to the speakers.
