My PC just shuts down while I'm using it. When I reboot, it ask if I want to go to safe mode, which I select. It reboots in safe mode and I restart. It will work for awhile, but then just shut down again.

Hi...dee richie...

Start your computer in the Safe Mode.
To start in Safe Mode
Turn your computer on
Keep tapping F8 while the computer is starting up
When the computer starts select Safe Mode
1. Uninstall any softwear you may have put on the computer before the problem started.
2. Do a complete System Restore: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This will bring your system back to a time before you installed the softwear or Microsoft installed drivers, etc.
Note: Just be sure to use a date in a darkened box before your trouble start date.
When you have done the above, restart the computer and if your still getting the blue screen of death, the installed drivers, softwear, etc might have
corrupted the Operating System.
If that happened then that means either repair or reinstall the operating system.
You will need to do the following:
1...Repairing the Operating System...
A...You will have to have the Operating Dics that came with the computer.
Note...If you do not have the disks that came with your computer or the ones you should have made when you first got your computer...then you will have to go to the manufacture's webpage and see if they have a recovery disk available for your computer, if they do not a recovery disks available then you can also try ebay to locate the recovery disks.
The original disks will have your product key number that came with the computer, you can also find it on the tower, or under the bottom of your laptop, or maybe the piece of paper that the CD orginally came in may have the number on it.
You can also download a small program and it will tell you your product key number.
Go to the following webpage to download your FREE key finder.
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
B...You will now insert the disc into the CD/DVD player
C...Restart the computer
D...When the window opens that tells you to press "Any" key, you will press any key you want to press.
E...If you do not receive a message that says "press any key to boot from CD", then then the computer is not ready to boot from a cd.
To correct this problem you will have to go into your computer's Bios and change the computer to boot from a CD.
To get into the Bios, shut the computer off, restart, while the computer is starting up keep tapping F1 as the computer is starting up.
When you are in the Bios, select to boot by CD by moving the cursor with the direction arrows on the keyboard.
Once you have selected to boot by cd the exit and restart the computer...the disc is already in the cd/dvd player.
Your system will then boot from the cd.
F...After a minute or less it should ask you if you want to Quit Repair, or Continue.
You will select Repair this time, but you may have to come back here and select Install if the repair does not work.
It will ok the agreement document if it asks you too.
Tap F8 on your keyboard to pass it when ready.
It will ask you if you want to Install, Repair, Delete Partition, or Quit.
Select Repair
Inside the box there will be one or two partitions.
Choose the largest partition.
After you have chosen the largest partition, you will then press the "r" key to start the repair
After the repair is complete, then you will need to restart your computer.
G...Computer Restart
After the repair is complete, shut the computer down (the computer will shut down a few times during the installation of the operating system
that is normal).
Then restart your computer, when the computer restarts it will have a box to put your product key...put the product key in the box and click.
The computer should start up and run as if it was a new computer.
You do not need to re-register
You can now remove the disc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this fails to clear your problem then you have a hardware problem.
It could be faulty ram
If you still get the problem then you have two choices.
1.Reinstall the entire Operating System and you may have to update some drivers.
This will require you to go back to the start of the repair info and select Install instead of Repair.
2..Take your machine in to have the hardware tested.
Keep in mind that if you do a complete reinstall of the Operating System you will lose all the information on the computer, such as pictures, programs, videos, everything you installed will be gone.
Please take time to rate me four thumbs up

Hi,

Sudden system shut down on your Laptop might be because important system files missing. Sony Laptop users having sudden system shutdown problem are advised to restore the system to an earlier trouble free time using a suitable restore point as this will replace all of the corrupted or missing system files which would help to solve the shut down problem.

Check all leads from motherboard to hard drive including electrical and all of your cd/dvd drives make sure the connections are good and not faulty and there is no dust built up on them
make sure your computers ram modules are securely seated with no dust in the sockets also the Cmos battery has charge and seated with no dust in the sockets
could be a memory dump you might be running to many programs at the one time placing to much strain on the CPU you might not have enough RAM random access memory
hope this helps you

Restart laptop and it fails to boot up

Have you tried hitting "esc" key repeatedly once you start the computer? This or the F11 key should take you to the black screen that lets you select to reboot in safe mode etc.
If it does, toggle down to the start in safe mode, let it boot up, then shut down. After shutting down, I have been able to reboot computer into normal mode.
Hope this helps.

Keeps shutting down

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

I may have a virus. Operating program won't open. Shall I rebote the system?

try restarting the PC in Safe Mode. Upon reboot keep pressing the F8 key. It will open a selection menu for you to choose safe mode. Go into Safe Mode and open your My Computer and right click on the C drive and go down to properties. THen go to the Tool tab and select the Check Disk option. It will ask you to check two boxes and then it will say you need to reboot your PC. Reboot your PC and let it run. Once its done it will automatically start back up with the OS. If your still having issues then restart the pc and go back into safe mode and this time run your anti virus program.

Hope this helps...

When I turn it on toshiba logo comes on and then it says that there either was apower failer or it was not shut down propley and it says to start windows normally when I do that nothing happans screan goes...

When it asks you to start windows in normal, there is also an option for Safe Mode. Select safe mode and boot. Once you have booted in safe mode, you can reboot and let it boot normally (it will not ask now).

HELP!! (dell precision 340) im getting 4 screens when i turn on m

Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatingly tapping on F8 while in process of rebooting and then select "last known good configuration". If that fails reboot again to safe mode and select safe mode with command prompt and in the command prompt type "chkdsk /f /r " <enter>

If that doesnt work do place your Windows CD into the Cd-Rom, reboot and select option "Repair"

When I turn my laptop on...It starts up but then when I try to log on it shuts down automatically. It's happened about 5 times now (in a row)

Try starting it in Safe Mode, by pressing F8 when the computer boots and selecting start in Safe Mode. If this lets you log in without shutting down then it is a problem than can be fixed relatively easily. Everything will appear bigger on the screen when it is in Safe Mode don't worry about that for now.

If you have installed any new hardware recently that may be affecting your system then uninstall it while you are in safe mode by going to Control Panel>system>device manager and right click on the hardware that you installed and uninstall it. Reboot the system and see if this solves your problem. If not reboot the system in Safe mode again as explained in the first paragraph then go to Start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that your system was working with no problems and press restore. Once the computer has restored it will reboot. If asked choose start windows normally.

I hope this helps you resolve your problem.
