RCA Model F36450 Chassis ATC113CA1 won't power up

The LED in the Power button blinks a few times and I hear a few clicks inside the TV (perhaps a relay?), but the set shuts down before it powers up. Screen is dead. The fuse on the 115VAC input has good continuity. This problem may have been caused by a power surge from a lightening storm, but I can't place the timing. I suspect a problem in the power supply but don't have a service manual. Can someone please provide me with test points and voltage values in the power supply so I can try to isolate this problem? I repair military circuit boards and power supplies for a living but don't have the schematic or manual for this TV. Does this TV have a service mode where it will display error codes? If so, how do I enter the service mode? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is the problem most likely in the power supply or could something else cause these symptoms? Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much, techman. Yes I work on circuit boards and high voltage/current power supplies, but have limited experience repairing TVs.

What is the circuit ID or part number for the horizontal output transistor, or approx. location so I can find it? I can find the base drive coil if I find the horiz. output transistor.

Is the horiz drive transformer in close proximity to the coil?

Is there a way to make sure that the flyback is bad before replacing it?

    Thanks again for your help.

same problem. several clicks at start-up. No pic. No sound, nothing.

I see comments on "flyback transformer". Where is this?

There is a large black thing with wires to the tube that looks like it got hot? Is that possible? it is part number 1585161A.

No sir it probably isent a power supply problem as in these sets it wouldnt act like that. First thingm to check since you say your a service tech, is in the horizontal output check and see if the horiz. output transistors shorted. If its not then check a small coil off the base of the horizontal output transistor. its really the base drive coil so take it out and scrap off the ends BOTH ENDS and reinsert and also resolder the horizontal driver transformer. This may or may not fix your problem But if it dosent order if you think ther sets wrth it the flyback transformer as this is a big problem in these sets if the for mentioned things did do the trick. follow the kit instructions that come with the flyback transformer!! Dont take any short cuts. Make sure you do take out the horizontal output transitor or at least unsolder all the leads when tesating it for a short. Good luck

The horiz. output xsistor is most of the time standing up sideways on a heat sink and the parts in the horiz. circuit or labeled with 4400 or 400. such as R4480 or D490. you really should get the schematic for this set and its available on-line at sams photo facts as a pdf download for $27.50. It just easyer to trouble shoot a circuit if you have the diagram. If you do get it Post the horizontal part of it and i will assist you in troubleshooting or even if you dont I can still assit but easyer if you get one. Good Luck

Five red blinks in Sony LED TV KDL 40W900A.

5 red flashes is a bad panel connection or internal panel short, very carefully take the panel connectors off and reseat them and see if that helps, unfortunately you may have a bad panel.

My toshiba TP48E60 model projection tv won' turn on, power light just blinks

Blinking of power LED are fault indications. Count the number of blinks occur at one time switch on. For this number, you can get an idea about the faulty section circuit inside it. It will make troubleshooting much narrower. If you wish to get more details about the blinking codes, check this link. Pull up older posts there.

Power LED blinks red

it is a bad fan. it also could be a power supply. Quite often the real problem is dirt clogging up the fan(s) to the point that they need to be replaced. Operation of the set in a dirty environment is not a good idea

Tv wil not turn on

The horizontal output transistor is most likely shorted, it's a 2sc5588 Rca Part # 259899 and there are a couple of subs available for that too.
The slight squealing you hear is the feedback voltage on the hot transformer as the B+ tries to increase and the s/d circuit cuts it off. Not an expensive repair...
Good Luck!

I changed the vertical deflection ic type TDA8170 and I measured two leaky capacitors in the power supply. Better to change all 4 capacitors in the power unit, everything was then ok !

This could cause a problem, because modern TVs and most other entertainment electronic goods, have a small kind of computer chip, but there should be a Reset button probably inside the set! If you feel confident about computer chips you may be able to find the button by tracing the circuit.(Disconnected from the mains). Another idea is if there is a small button cell or battery inside, then try disconnecting it for a day. Good Luck!
