Be aware though. Your TV has a DVB-T tuner. It picks up the Freeview standard definition (SD) channels, but not the Freeview HD ones. Dolby Digital sound only comes from the Freeview HD channels.
Your TV will pass Dolby Digital from any source connected to a HDMI port to the Optical Out. It will also pass DTS. But the internal Freeview DVB-T tuner doesn't generate Dolby Digital, just stereo and stereo with Dolby Surround encoding where you use ProLogic II for decoding.
Check whether the mute button is activated or jammed. Try using a headphone and check whether audio is heard. If not, connect the same input to a different TV and check whether the audio is heard. If yes, this might require attention by a qualified service technician.
Hi. You could look up reviews. I personally usually never offer advice on choices, because what I like, may not be what you like..its a matter of personal preference. But in this particular case, I'd go for Panasonic. Why? Better features, better service, easier availability of parts, and better resolution.Plus some nice features. If this answers your question, PLEASE don't forget to rate as fixed. I'd really appreciate it. Enjoy your new tube!!!
