Dell Precision T3500 Press button to turn on the 1 & 3 amber lights blink a few times and turn off. The computer does not turn on. Checked all cables and tried cables from other computers in office...same results. Any suggestions on what to try to power up the computer?

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2011

The solution did not work. The 1 & 3 are green now and stopped blinking. They light up for a couple of seconds. I hear a click and the 1 & 3 lights are off.

Try running diagnostic test press the power and the windows key at the same time and it will run in diagnostic mode and hopefully that will reveal the trouble. Also, you may wish to try reseating the memory.

The next troubleshooting step would be for you to reseat the video card.

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2011

Reseated the video card. Does not power up. The numbers 1,2 & 4 flashed and went off. The only light showing now looks like the symbol of a battery.

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2011

Disregard last comment. The system powered up and all is running fine. Thank you so much for all your help.

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2011

If lights 1,2, & 4 are flashing that's a sign that the microprocessor has gone bad.

Great, glad it worked out for you.

The lights alone don't tell enough to tell you how to fix it ACPI S3
Suspend to RAM Windows Standby State.
Does it boot if you use a recovery disk or an emergency boot DVD or USB stick?
Detach all the hard drives and peripherals, pull out all the memory except one, Try again. What is the result?
Try it with a different memory module alone, Repeat.
See if you can isolate a bad memory module
Or it could be a bad motherboard. Shut down and unplug, Inspect the capacitors on the board. are any of them swollen, split or leaking?

IS the 9 year old PC dead? I presume so. but is it?the screen is blank and black full time.
T3500 the letter "T" means tower, or desktop.
amber lamps on the unstated monitor, or PC case front. or on some dell PC case it as 4 led, diagnostic strip of lamps, a coded, that?
The manual is free to read, and covers led codes.
I'm answering hyjacker Seun O now,, you too no clues as to what you see, on monitor or the PC itself.
here are common failures, on all 9 years old PCs.
The RTC battery in the PC goes dead, the coin cell inside,
the HDD is bad.
the HDD OS is corrupted. for sure if XP OS.
The monitor is older than 2010 the CCFL backlamps die.
the 12 tests are here.

Try the steps given below and it should resolve the issue;
1. Turn off the computer - unplug the power cable
