Dell 2000FP monitor black screen

I just fixed my Dell 2000FP LCD monitor and right now using it.

The solution is very simple and easy. Do it your self if you are comfortable soldering.

Resolder the 2 transformer legs ( 9 legs each transformer), 2 oranger capitors, 2 small green capitors, 2 inductors coil legs.

Use at least 45 watts soldering iron with a pointed tip. Be careful.

This problem is, without a doubt, caused by the firmware inside the atmel chip (AT49BV8192AT) that is located on the main logic board. My 2000FP had the sam problems, It just freezes during startup and only a hard reset could solve the problem. I also tried capacitors and re-soldering stuff then it seems to help but this is not the case because the problem is in the beginning intermittend. After a while it freezed all the tim during startup. It is the firmware that is slowly getting erased. I ordered a new atmel chip with pre-installed 2000FP software and used a Hot air gun the repace it. The monitor has been working for half a year now. This is a typical DELL 2000FP problem from a certain series.

I got the same problem just right now and figured out by the most profesional technician (My Edgardo) that u only need to solder the cole, both of them a little bit more, and thats it!

Sounds like a bad power supply. I doubt if its the firmware as where did it go?? Did you dump the puter?? have you tryed the monitor on a friends puter?? Good Luck

My monitor died slowly, the time to the freeze constantly degrading. No difference if the device was warm or cold. This leads to the following hypothesis:

Microprocessors freeze up because of three reasons most times: First, temperature problems. Unlikely here. Second, programme runs into an infinite loop because of poor code. Unlikely, too. Third, the supply voltage is not as stable as it should.

So it is most likely a problem of the power supply. Since the external power supply is fine the problem will be the internal DC/DC converters providing the 2.7V for the logics chip. Their maximum current output is heavily dependent on the condition of the electrolytic capacitors involved. And these tend to run dry over years, especially when stored in hot places (and a running monitor might be such a place).

If I am right you need to find the degraded capacitor(s) and exchange it with a new one, SMD, Low-ESR, 105°C temperature rating, capacity and maximum voltage as printed on the case (first number is capacity in µF, second is maximum voltage). Process involves SMD soldering, so practice soldering and dissoldering on a cheaper board first, not the no-longer-produced 4-layer one.

I will try this myself once I have some spare time (have to finish my diploma thesis first).
