I have a 1999 Buick Century. When I plug my GPS power adapter into the cigarette lighter outlet, I blow the fuse. ---Can you suggest a solution? ---How many amps are in that outlet? Thanks.

Probably a 15 to 20 amps..If you use the cigarette lighter does it also blow the fuse ,you may have a short in the circuit..It should be able to handle the GPS..Dont increase the fuse size, you can cause bigger problems

Is there an adapter that can be used on a car cigarette lighter for plugging in appliances?

Your best bet is to check on eBay for an adapter - the Asians make all sorts of stuff for cars now & i'm sure there is an adapter out there suited for your purposes. P.S. It may sound silly but are you sure you are using the actual cigarette lighter socket & Not a power outlet socket that many cars are now fitted with as standard?, my phone charger fits the cigarette socket but not the power outlet?, you never know?

1992 buick century lighter wont work

If the lighter outlet works with a cig lighter, the plug for your GPS may not be making contact with the center point in the outlet.
may have dirt and debris in the bottom of the outlet
You may also have a blown fuse.

Fuse keeps blowing.even after i replaced the cig. Lighter why

Main cause could be something stuck in the lighter socket. Sometimes, the ends of the car charger for a cell phone of GPS will separate, leaving the end in the socket itself. Placing the cigarette lighter back int he socket while there's something already in the socket will cause you to blow a fuse.

Cannot locate where the fuse is that controls my cigarette lighter in front console and the passenger back seat. The lighter in the very back of my vehicle works. I want to replace the fuse. My lighter...

Hi, that fuse is in the box under the hood. See pic below. I think it's fuse 32. Fuse 45 also powers those outlets but also power a lot of other circuits. The fuse for the outlet in the very back of the car is on the interior fuse panel, #14. All of this information is in your owners manual. The fuse for the cigarette lighter blows everytime I replace it? any suggestions to what the problem could be?

either the lighter or something else protected by the same fuse is defective, drawing too much current and blowing the fuse. that is what it is supposed to do. if you can get at the back of the lighter, pull the wiring connector plug off and then reinstall the fuse. if it does not blow then you need a new lighter, if it continues to blow out then you need to find what else is on the fuse's circuit and disable it.

My 2002 Buick Century keeps blowing out the 20a fuse for the door locks. This dosn't happen right away but maybe the second or third time I use the remote switch.

The circut is being overloaded.I beleive the cigarette lighter, the power mirrors and maybe the trunk release is connected to this circut. If there are any problems with any of these items the use of the doorlocks will overload it.GM always had problems with their cigarette lighters shorting. If none of these items are faulty.Have the door lock solenoids checked

Fuse blown on cigarette lighter Saturn 2001

It sounds like you have a bad charging cable for the GPS or the cable is overloading the cigarette lighter.

The cigarette lighter is designed for less power then a 12v power outlet.

Therefore it is easy to blow the fuse for the cigarette light if you install something that draws too much power.

Cigarette front lighter is not working in my 2001Saab

Check ALL the fuses. pull them out an dlook. Also repace the one that is power for the dash/rradio/etc... even if it looks good.
If that doe snot fix it then pull the lighter out and test the wire going to it for power. If it has power then you might have a bad plug/ground. Replace outlet if so.
