I have just replaced the capacitor and rectifier bridge in my Coleman Powermate PM0545007. I made the mistake of not taking a picture before removing the wiring from the capacitor and rectifier and am confused about the proper wiring sequence. Can you help me? I have pics I can send. Thank you. Scott L.

Most coleman gens use the following part as assembly:

Part # 0062455 assembly , bridge rectifier

this assembly is installed on the plastic end cover and has a capacitor soldered onto the board. If this is the part that you have, then it is installed with the capacitor against the back plate. When it is installed, the back is the board is up facing you. The brush wires will only install one way because of the length of the wires (one will not reach to connect). If you are replacing parts on the board please send photo. Glad to help.

After looking at photos. Looks nice and clean and the condition of the surface of the brushes look good (as the brushes wear, they will no longer make constant contact with the comm ring and begin to bounce /arc. When looking at the comm rings, they should look smooth. If dark spots are present, the brushes are bouncing (smooth with very fine paper) ). Verify that the brush closest to the bearing is the negative brush (the capacitor is marked with polarity, negative brush to negative cap). The capacitor should measure to within 95% of mfd rating to get full voltage output. The two yellow wires are AC output to power the magnet. Connect the two yellow to rectifier pins marked with AC or symbol of sine wave. Negative brush wire to rectifier marked with negative sign and positive brush wire to rectifer plus sign. Good luck with your repair

Powermate PM0545007

With mine I add 'dry gas'. My local store carries Sta-Bil, yours will have something compatible (if not this one). Even if the gas is new, moisture can still be in the tank. Use as directed.

I use it in my snowblower, tractor, generator and cars.

Hope that cures your problem as it has mine.

We just bought a coleman powermate 5,000-6250 gen and it runs great but will not produce electricity. i hooked a 75 watt bulb up to each plug in and it would just barely come on the fade out. but would...

Your generator produces proper voltage and 60 cycles at 3600 rpm. Use meter to adjust voltage/engine rpm. If after adjusting rpm setting and gen. does not have proper power, remove cover to generator and examine brushes and commutator rings for wear and voltage regulator/rectifier for burned components swolen or leaking capacitor and replace parts as necessary. Parts are available www.jackssmallengine.com Good luck

Same Problem, diodes fell out of bridge rectifier assembly

pulling to many amps, diodes could not handle amps so they failed.unit should have kicked its breaker before the diodes burned out.most units have their own breaker to protect the system.I would replace the control board first see how unit reacts, probly fine,if not the you go to next step.

I have a 3 year old Coleman Powermate 6250

Try this! To excite it. Shut off the generator! Unplug everything,Then use the 12 volt battery to excite it per manual. Make sure the engine is NOT running and the breaker switch is in the on position. Now with the battery 12V removed restart the generator! This should fix it if the problem is that it lost its magnetism.

Powered up Coleman Generator. Generator made grinding noise

I don't know what unit you have, but I would say it was overloaded and shorted out the stator, burned up the voltage regulator, exploded the capacitor, or had a loose connection that caused some wires to burn up. Maybe remove the end plate off the generator end and take so pictures and will go from there.

Generator dose not produce power, just stop working.

Check the rectifier board installed under gen cover that powers the brushes. This board has a capacitor about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch dia. If the capacitor looks swollen or burned replace board or carefully remove cap and replace with similar. You can use a larger capacitor with same rating, just tie cap to rear cover. Also check the condition of the brushes. Parts are not too expensive. Check with jacksmallengines on the web for parts. enjoy
