I have a 5 year old Canon IXUS 50 camera and have now bought a 16 GB SDHC memory card. Turning the camera on gives a warning of "Memory Card Error". What do you suggest - send it back and if so does anyone know what is the maximum card capacity I can buy?

I suggest you to use a 1GB SD card. Even 2GB might be supported. Don't use SDHC cards. They are incompatible with older cameras.

How to unlock a new memory card in my Canon Ixus 750 please. I bought a new memory card a SanDisk 4 GB, loaded it into my camera which is at least 3 years old and it says card locked.

SD/SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

4gb kingston canon ixus 50

The IXUS 50 works with MMC and SD cards. Your new 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

If your camera is the type that uses SD cards, then your problem is that the camera was developed in 2004 before SDHC cards were invented. Your camera cannot use them.

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible. Anything over 2GB is SDHC.

Will my canon ixus 60 take a 16gb memory card

Yes. The IXUS 60 was designed to work with SD cards. Cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC (the HC stands for High Capacity) and will not work in this camera.

Maximum memory size of sd-card for canon ixus 40 ????

Check to see if your 16GB card is an SDHC card. If it is, your camera is not compatible with SDHC. (The SDHC protocol was developed after the SD300 came out in 2004).
