I tried to power on my computer and there was nothing. It was plugged in and the battery light was blinking amber when I tried to press the power button. The light on the power cord is green but there is no power to the laptop.

It sounds like the Power adapter is:

1. Not plugged into the computer
2. Not functioning
3. Has a broken connector (or the laptop has a broken power connector)

Unplug the adapter, remove the battery, hold the power button on the laptop for 30 seconds. Plug in the power adapter connector to the laptop - if the power indicator illuminates, remove the power cord, insert the battery ant then plug in the power cord. Press the power button (hopefully you're back in business).

If that does not help, p borrow an adapter from a friend and try it with your laptop, if it works, then go buy a new adapter!

Power light flashing amber

Follow the steps given below. (Please be careful when handling computer electrical components like batteries and AC Adapters)
  • Remove the battery and hold down the power button for few seconds (to drain all remaining power)
  • Power up the computer without the battery with the A/C adapter plugged in.
  • Wait for few seconds and plug the battery back in
After a few tries the computer should start charging normally. The amber battery stops blinking and turn green when fully charged.

Flashing amber and green when charging

I don't know your computer, have you read the Trouble Shooting chapter in its manual? You could try plugging the computer in and leaving it to charge for several hours; my notepad will not display if the battery is flat. Good luck!

After a storm the other night my Proview PL866s amber light is blinking - however when I press the amber button (which usually turns green and then it works) nothing is happening except blank screen and...

If this happened after a storm, the monitor may have been subjected to a power surge, which unfortunately might have killed it.

If you have another monitor (or a friend who has one) try plugging that other monitor into your computer. If the second monitor works, yours will need to be replaced as the input was probably destroyed by the power surge.

If the second monitor also doesn't work, there may be a problem with your computer, most likely with the power supply (this is the part most often damaged by a power surge). You may want to have it examined by a professional computer repair person at that point.

Hope this is helpful!

MY DELL IS OPTIPLEX 760SFF, IT NOT BOOTING, SHOWING AMBER LIGHT ON THE POWER BUTTON WHEN PLUG TO POWER.

Hi,
If this the light is solid amber in the front of the computer.Try doing the following steps

1. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the system tower. Press the power button on the tower 30 seconds.
2. Reconnect the power cable to the back of the system tower and power it back on.

If the amber light is on the monitor power button and the tower power button is off or blinking amber it could mean that it is a bad power supply.

This is taken from page 11 of the user's manual (http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01627018/c01627018.pdf)

Blinking amber: A battery that is the only available
power source has reached a low battery level. When
the battery reaches a critical battery level, the battery
light begins blinking rapidly.

In other words, attach the charger to the laptop and let charge for at least 1 hr before trying to restart your computer.
