I have a Yamaha preamplifier CX-800/U where the Powertransformer is defect which let the primary 220V transform into secondary voltages.I know the transformer is no longer available but i would like to change it with a universal transformer.I would only like to know which voltages exactly are secondary(2 orange wires and 2 red&1black wire)I've searched for the service manual with the electric diagrams but till now i've not be able to find it.I would be gratefull if You could help me with this matter.Thank You in advance!

Hi, I have replaced many hundreds of transformers with universal ones. If I have the set in front of me I will give you the voltages in 3 minutes. you are lucky it only has two secondaries. One problematic pioneer had 5 outputs & I had transformers made for this one!
You say it is a pre-amp??
That is unusual? Then the transformer will be very small, about 10 watts?
how much knowledge do you have?
Can you follow the circuit & find the recrifiers & voltage regulators?
Can you find & look at the voltage on the smoothing caps?

You can send me a photo but remember we have to make a fire for internet. 50-100Kb maximum.

I asked for more info, but I have replaced many hundreds of unobtainable transformers. All the voltages can be found by a bit of logic thinking & observation. If I have the item in front of me I will have the solution in minutes.
Double red with black, expecially together is normally a X-0-X winding, identified by the rectifier & smoothing caps. The voltages on them will give some indication, but tracing the voltage to an regulator is an accurate solution.
What are the voltages used for?
Normally the one winding will be a low voltage like 12-18 volt for the pre-amps mixers etc. This very often will go through oner or more voltage regulators. Their voltage is written on them, and they will have have small heatsink on them & live near the rectifiers & caps. Look for three legged items marked something like 7812. This is a 12 volt reghulater while a 7809 is a 9 volt regulater. The split voltage say from 20-0-20 to 80-0-80 max will drive the power amp. A 20 watt stereo amp will most likely use two integrated circuits. Luckily you can find their operating voltages very easily by typing in their number like TDS2005 into google. As for an output stage like a 60 to 100 Watt amplifier, a voltage like 60 0 60 and 80 0 80 is used. If in doubt, go a bit lower & play safe. All you will loose is a few watts. If logic (computer circuitry) is used, all computers use basic only 12 volt and 5 volt. Very easy.
Before you give up or look for a new transformeer, just check!!!!!
Most *** xformers have a secret fuse inside them which is easily replaced if you know how!

I have an ELNA 3210 is 220v I live in Florida and need voltage transformer. from 220v to 110v for it and how many watts does it need? Thank you

From this document
http://edrenzi.com/Code/Trans%20(1p).pdf
the power is going to be the same as it was with 220V
However you need a step up transformer

if the supply voltage is 110V then the primary voltage needs to be 110V and the secondary voltage needs to be 220V dependant on your Elna needing 220V to run.
Does the ELna have a power rating plate at 220 V AC and if not does it have a current rating at 220V as power = voltage x current
so if it was 1 amp at 220v the power rating would be 220 Watts
When a transformer is involved the current on the primary coils of the transformer will half due to the 1:2 ratio of the transformer and will drag the same wattage as 220 V .
Another consideration is the frequency of the supply I am guessing the ELna is looking for 50 Hz and I think Florida will be on 60 Hz - not sure if this will be an issue in the ELNA but there are frequency adapters on the market to convert 60 hz to 50 hz if it is an issue.

You might be able to check the elna circuitry to see if it has a transformer inside it that you might be able to change to run at 110V down to whatever the elna runs on internally at its internal transformer secondary voltage.
Also check there is not a switch on the elna to switch from 220 v to 110v on the unit - not sure if it has this feature ?

How to change voltage from American standard 120 V to European 220V

This is for a powered speaker? You'll need an "autotransformer" or "step-down transformer" with a 240VAC primary winding and a 120VAC secondary winding. If you try to just use a plug adapter and power that speaker from 240V, you'll destroy it immediately.

I recently bought a U.S. version Nakamichi 600 II cassette console (120V), and I accidently burnt its transformer out by a 220V mains supply. Now I need to replace this burnt out transformer better with a...

To match it with an other transformer, you have to know about its secondary voltages. Try to download its service manual by internet. It will have all details. It will be best to contact any expereienced service technician or to the authorized service center for Nakamichi.

First, check the 220v line and breakers are properly grounded and that you are getting a constant 220v at the plug. Then you will need to check the transformer on the unit.To test a transformer you need to know what type of transformer it is first. There is a step up transformer which steps the voltage up and a step down transformer which steps the voltage down.
You will still test the transformers the same way for step up and step down transformers. If it is a step up transformer apply the incoming power to the transformer or plug it up. Now take your multimeter and place it on the AC volt scale and test the voltage if the voltage on the data plate says the transformer should step up to 220 volts and it doesn't then your transformer is bad.
Now repeat the same steps for a step down transformer. Plug up the incoming or primary power and test voltage on the outcoming or secondary side the voltage should step down to the proper value. If you don't read any voltage on the secondary or outgoing side then the transformer is bad.
To read the voltage place the two meter leads on the secondary side, or the side you will plug your equipment into. If the secondary side is an outlet then place the two meter leads into the top two slots in the plug and read voltage. You also want to make sure the incoming power is working as well. Otherwise you will be reading a bad reading every time.
If all that looks good, then you will need to replace the control board. Here is a link to the parts for your range.

The unit input voltage is 110 volt and was plugged into 220v outlet. . the input winding is now busted. . i was hoping to know the secondary voltage of the transformer. . i was planning to replace the...

The winding is center tapped. It generates +/-24.5 volts DC. Based on it being a capacitor input filter, we need a peak voltage about 1 volt higher to account for the droop of the capacitor and the .7 volt drop of one silicon diode...

Since we need 25.5 volts peak then we need that divided by 1.414 RMS out of ONE side of the center=tapped secondary... So our secondary voltage is 18 volts either side of center.

You will need a 36 volt center-tapped secondary. Here is one that would work:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=162J36-ND

This has two 18 volt windings that you would connect in series and a dual primary you can set for either 120 or 240 input. About $19 US.

Transformer died, got a Packard Universal PF42440 for Heil furnac

Look at the tranformer. It should tell you which wires are the primary side and which are the secondary side. It may have more than 2 wires on the primary so it can be used for more than 1 voltage. Now depending on what voltage the a/c uses find the wires in the a/c with that voltage on them (110v or 220v) and connect one of those 2 to the lead for that voltage on the primary and the other to the common on the primary. Next the secondary side should have 2 wires, probably yellow and blue but maybe not. I don't know the color of the wires in your a/c but one leg of the primary usually connects to a red wire and the other to a blue wire that probably come from a ciruit board or thermostat. Make sure you do not connect 110/220 to the wires for the low voltage side. If this doesn't help let me know what color the wires in your unit are and we can go from there.

I have an old teac cx 210 tape deck where the primary has failed on the transformer, can you tell me the secondary voltages (3 of them) so I can find a replacement

Transformers are often marked in service manuals as safety parts. Which means they have to be replaced by the same parts or those specified suitable by the maker. Suggest you contact Teac for a replacement part.
