NEED HELP TO SETUP MY TRUEMOBILE 2300 ROUTER TO MY DELL LATITUDE D600 LAPTOP. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET WIRELESS CONNECTION. WHAT I DO HAVE , 1300 TRUEMOBILE PC CARD PLUG IN. WHAT I DON'T HAVE IS A...

The Network Key you're probably asking for is on a sticker located, underneath the router. Can you check?

Here's a way to configure your router for your existing network (assuming you already have one) :

If you have an existing network, chances are you have already configured network services on the network. In this case, you would use the router as a pure Access Point to extend the range of your network by allowing more attachment of wireless and wired computers. You MUST also turn off the DHCP server on the router if there is a DHCP server running to avoid IP address conflict.

To configure the router as an Access Point with the DHCP server disabled:

  1. Open your web browser and go to http://my.router, (or the default address http://192.168.2.1.)

  2. Click the Basic Settings tab on the top navigation bar.

  3. Select Access Point Mode.

  4. Click the Next button.

  5. Click OK to dismiss the DHCP disabled message box (The DHCP server will be disabled in Access Point Mode by default).

  6. Click the Advanced Settings tab on the top navigation bar.

  7. Click the Advanced IP Settings tab on the left navigation bar.

  8. Assign an IP address to the Wireless Broadband Router.

note.gif NOTE: The IP address should be reserved by the DHCP server. The Wireless Broadband Router cannot act as a DHCP client, therefore, it needs a static IP address for its LAN interface.

  9. Click the Submit button.

  10. Click the Save & Restart button.

  11. Note the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

  12. While the Wireless Broadband Router resets, the Power light on the front of the unit blinks.

  13. When your web browser returns to the main page of the Wireless Broadband Route, the device has successfully restarted with the new settings.
note.gif NOTE: The main page may not return if you have changed IP address of the router in Step 8. To view the main page, type the new IP address of the router in the web browser to access it.

  14. Plug an Ethernet cable from the existing local network into any LAN port on the Wireless Broadband Router.

I am trying to connect my Dlink DKT-401 router to my Linksys cable gateway router. I am not getting internet access when connecting to the Dlink network

I DON'T THINK YOU CAN RUN 2 ROUTERS ON THE SAME NETWORK UNLESS ONE IS USED AS AN ACCESS POINT.
1. Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode. Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; these must be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for details on its client mode configuration support.

2. Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP address setting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a two router environment. Check the second router's IP address value and reset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of the first router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network).

3. Disable DHCP - To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the home network, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens.

Instead of adding a second wired router to an existing network, consider adding a network switch instead. A switch accomplishes the same goal of extending the size of a network, but it does not require any IP address or DHCP configuration, greatly simplifying configuration.

How do I disable DHCP server of the wrt160n so my d-link router is the main router?

you need to open a browser and enter the numbers 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. it will ask for a user name and password. the default user name and password is "admin". if you have entered a different password while setting up the wireless connectivity, please use that password. once you entered the credentials, you can disable the DHCP server in the setup page of the linksys router. i have attached a screen shot for your reference. if you have any difficulties in doing this process, please reply to this message. hope it helps you. glvenu.jpg

WAP connecting to another WAP

On the D-Link WAN page, change IP Address to static and give it an address about 30 away from both the Hawking and the Linksys. On the DHCP page, disable DHCP.

In a multiple router network such as yours, you can only have ONE real router. The others have to be disabled as routers. Disable thier DHCP and give them static addresses that are all at leat 10? or more from each other. Wireless should all be the same setup. The on;y exception is the SSID which can be slightly different to know which wireless you are on.

RE: My posted. Connecting DSL/Router to DIR-628 internet router

Installing a router to work as the second one on a home networkrequires special configuration. Do the following on the second routerto ensure it (and the devices attached) function properly:1. Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode.Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; thesemust be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for detailson its client mode configuration support.

2. Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP addresssetting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a tworouter environment. Check the second router's IP address value andreset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of thefirst router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network).

3. Disable DHCP- To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the homenetwork, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens.

(My netgear router supports client mode. The 2wire supports bridged and router mode. My 2wire is the main router. I set up my netgear using my laptop. Once you change the address on the router.. You will only be able to directly access through the main router to the 2701.)

Configure your 2701 IP address to a static address in the 192.168.2.1 range and diable DHCP. Only 1 router can run the DHCP service. To disable Dhcp on the 2701.... log on to 2701> click on home network>advanced settings>uncheck enable DHCP>Next section is Public routed subinterface...Check enable and Aout Firewall Open>Input your main router address and mask>save config..

This worked with the Netgear router.. May not with your router. Good Luck! Hope this helps!

Dhcp disabled

Hello,

I'm not too sure how you are trying to access the router (wired or wireless) or what operating system you are using, but you will need to manually set your IP address (through Network Properties) on the computer to 192.168.2.10 (for example) with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
If you also want internet access you will need to set the Gateway and DNS to 192.168.2.1.

Once that is set you will be able to try bring the page http://192.168.2.1 again and configure the router from there.

Once you configure the router (i assume you want to turn on DHCP again) you can set your computer back to DHCP assigned IP and DNS.

Dual Routers?

Disable DHCP in the router. Connect the modem to a LAN jack on the router. You'll have 3 LAN ports. If you need more ports, buy a hub. (You can change the default IP address on the Linksys, but you can't forward through 2 NATs.)
