I bought a new memory card for my Canon Power Shot SD 400 Digital Elph, but it has an error message that comes up. When I scrolled through the Menu to format the card, the format selection is grey and won't allow me to do anything. Any advice???

the reason you are getting the error message is because your camera is compatible with a maximum capacity of 2gb. try to have your sd card replaced to a 2gb instead.

New cards must be formatted in the camera to work properly.

Did you try to format the cards before you tried to use them? Is the slide switch on the side of the card unlocked?

I'm guessing you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.

Make sure the little slide on the SD card is in the right position, and if it's a high capacity SD it might not be compatible with your camera...
