I have a Bernina 135S and I managed to get a pin caught in between the plate and the feed dogs. I removed the plate, took out the pin and put it back together although now my feed dogs only move up and down rather than pulling the fabric through the machine. I have taken the back off the machine but can't seem to locate the issue, can anyone help me?

Check whether the feed dogs are coming above the stitch-plate at their maximum height. They should be about 1mm above the stitch plate when driving the material under the foot. I assume, by the way, that you haven't got the feed-dog drop button pushed-in at the handwheel end !!! If the feed-dogs are lower than 1mm, or not above the stitch-plate, the dog cam cam-foller will need adjustment. You have to remove the front cover to get at this and it should be done with a special gauge, so really its a service agent job, however, for what its worth;
With the front cover removed to gain access to the free-arm mechanism, look to the right of the hook race and on the end of the bottom drive shaft there are two black plastic cams . The right-hand one regulates the movement of the dogs front-to-back in association with the stitch-length stepper-motor, which drives the upper shaft in the free-arm. The left-hand cam regulates the up-down movement of the dogs and the cam follower (a piece of right-angled plated metal) has to be adjusted to determine the maximum height of the dogs aboe the stitch plate. The cam follower rubs against the top edge of the dog cam. There should be a small spring that pulls the cam follower down onto the cam at the front - if that's missing, the feed-dogs probably wont move quite correctly. To adjust the dog height, turn the hand-wheel until the feed-dogs are at their maximum height, unscrew the small screw in the left-hand side of the cam follower a couple of turns (dont, for goodness-sake, take it out !) - the feed-dogs should then pop-up above the stitch-plate. You now have a problem without the proper gauge ! You need to gently push the dogs back down against spring pressure until they are the correct height above the stitch-plate and tighten the screw on the cam follower. This should, at least, get over the problem - it wont be exactly right without the gauge and there is another adjustment that should be done to ensure the front and back of the dogs are at slightly different heights, but it should be good enough without this.

Good Luck !!!

    I did not write the original post but the same thing happen to my machine. Your advice was spot on. My husband ,who by the way was a tool maker for 30 years, was able to follow your instructions and fix the problems. My feed dogs are working perfectly now. Thank you so much

How to take off needle plate on Bernina 170

Bernina calls this the stitch plate (where the feed dogs come up and the needle goes down). To remove the plate, turn off the sewing machine. Remove the sewing table if it is in place. Take off the presser foot and remove the needle. Open the free-arm cover (bobbin cover in the sewing machine front view, page 4) by tilting it down towards you. Press down on the back right corner of the stitch plate and lift the stitch plate off to remove it. See page 68 of the manual for the Bernina Artista 170 for the pictures that go with the above steps. Bernina has the manual on the product page: https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Machines-US/Series-Overview/BERNINA-artista/BERNINA-artista-170 . The current link to the manual is https://www.bernina.com/BERNINA/media/Support/Sewing_Quilting_Embroidery/artista/artista_170/Documents/EN/008853-73-04_Naehen_a170_EN_online.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I have a bernina 1630 and the feed dogs will not feed fabric and it wiil not sew

The feed dogs on that model often wear off as they were defective in that they were to soft. But now you have to buy replacement part with sharper teeth, from a Bernina Dealer
you might also check that there is not a lot of lint impacted between the rows of feed dogs Remove the needle plate and remove old lint etc. Otherwise you will have to have a Bernina Tech reposition them for you as it requires special tools and technique to raise them back to normal position

Bernina Nova 900. Feed Dog Adjustment and Troubleshoot (Any manual}

1: remove the open arm cover by pressing the lever just under the needle plate to the upper left of the bobbin case door.
Clean out the lint between the feed dogs.
Replace open arm cover and the feed dogs at the highest rotation should be the height of a dime above the needle plate.
If this is correct then done. If the feed dogs are still to low
remove the needle plate again and in the right hand side of the open arm area, there are two small screws on right feed dog bar. Loosen them move feed dogs up and down to required height(above) retighten screw very tight. Done

Security program on bernina 750 flashing icon won't let me sew on the embroidery module Screen shows foot and plate with smiley faces but when i hit the button to sew , it goes back to security screen

Perhaps you have a needle plate that is not suitable for what you are doing. Mine showed the presser foot with the feed dogs which meant the feed dogs needed to be dropped.

Need to remove needle plate

Remove the presser foot and needle. Press the feed-dog drop button on the right-hand end of the machine, so that the feed-dogs drop below the needle plate. Press the back right-hand-side of the needle plate firmly and the front left side should pop up. You can then lift the plate out to clean underneath etc. When replacing, put the hole in the plate over the locating lug at the front-right corner and make sure the right-hand-side of the plate is down first, before pressing the left-hand side down into the grey surround. Be careful not to use excess force if it wont go, otherwise you could break the retaining spring. When done, dont forget to press the feed-dog drop button again and rotate the handwheel once, so that the feed-dogs come back up again.'

Hope that helps

My Bernina 180 will not feed when I use a twin needle on knit fabric.

are you using a stretch twin needle; without one you'll get skipped stitches. However, the feed sounds more like a feed dog issue. Have you lowered the feed dogs for any reason? Will it sew on a woven cotton okay? If yes, but not feeding the knit then you could try turning up the presser foot pressure and see if that helps with the feed.

If you look across the needle plate with the presser foot removed and manually turn it through a stitch sequence, can you see the feed dogs coming up above the needle plate??

When cleaning my Bernina 1030, I took the plate out and cleaned the inside bobbin area, now the feed dogs will not come back up. any ideas?

How about turning your handwheel at least 2 complete revolutions towards you? It works on Singers, maybe you can be lucky and have it work for you. Good luck
