First you need to restart your itouch.
Then, plug it in to your computer and wait for iTunes to pop up.
Select a few songs from your library or some movies that you have and drag them to your iPod.
What I did was, dragged some movies on my itouch to the tv shows folder as soon as i did this everything popped back on to my screen

This worked for me also! I did a 'select all' from Edit on menu (this is in Windows for me) then dragged everything to my itouch icon and it began syncing the music over. Excellent, thank you!@

Ipod touch does not save content

Try to hold down the power and home keys down for about 15 seconds each while plugged into itunes. When the screen goes black, release the power button but make sure to keep holding the home key until iTunes says; We have detected an itouch in recovery mode.

From there you can restore as normal via iTunes.

How do I take Music Off on my iTouch

By default iTunes set to automatically sync your library to your iPod. This is useful for a quick sync, but not to manage your music in a more personal way. The settings can be modified to iTunes all the songs on the iPod that you do not want at this time. Alternatively, if you want to transfer music from your iPod to your computer, what can be done using a third-party program?

iTunes manual settings

1. After that, you can close iTunes.

3. Open the program you just installed, and then connect your iPod. Fix Disabled ITouch that ITunes will not recognize

If your itouch reads "disabled connect to itunes" and shows the "locked" icon and your itunes will not even recognize the device and itunes says your itouch is locked and enter password, Here is what you do to restore your itouch: (you will lose all itouch contents but it is worth it as almost all say it is broken and worthless)
1. Turn off your itouch or ipod. Do not have charger / usb connected to ipod or itouch.
2. With device off, connect the charger end of the cable to the itouch / ipod but do not plug the usb into the computer.
3. Open Itunes
3. While holding down the menu button (and I mean keep holding it down), plug the usb into the computer.
4. Wait to see the new wonderful graphic on your device and computer screen that shows that your ipod / itouch is recognized.
Your itouch will start immediately restoring itself and you are ready to fill it up with wonderful images, photos and videos again!
So happy to share this tip. It saved me money and time.

Changing computers

iTunes will let you transfer your purchased songs from your iPod to your new iTunes as detailed here
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848

For the rest of your iPod music, you will need to use a program like TouchCopy to copy your iPod content onto your computer or straight to your new iTunes. TouchCopy lets you copy all your music, video, photos, contacts, notes, calendars, games and more from your iPod.

To copy your iPod music using TouchCopy, you will need to...
1. Download and install TouchCopy on your computer. TouchCopy works with all iPod types and the iPhone. There are free PC and Mac downloads available from here
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/

2. Ensure that iTunes is closed before connecting your iPod. Then start TouchCopy and connect your iPod. TouchCopy will have fixed your iTunes preferences so that iTunes will not sync music or video with your iPod while TouchCopy is running. These changes are restored when you quit TouchCopy.

3. Use TouchCopy to copy all your iPod content to your computer hard drive or straight into iTunes.

4. You can then use iTunes to re-sync your iPod, which will re-load your iPod with all your music and let you add new content to it too.

My itouch will not sync with itunes anymore. a window pops up and says I need to enable my computer to sync and I don't know what to do

Syncing music manually If you prefer not to automatically sync music content to your iPod, you can set up manual syncing.
  1. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
  2. Select iPod in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window. ht1351_7.jpg
  3. In the main iTunes browser window, select the Summary tab.
  4. Select the option to "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music." This will deselect the automatic sync settings for the Music, Movies, and TV Shows tabs. Note: When manually managing iPod, disk use is enabled and iPod must always be manually ejected in iTunes before disconnecting it from your computer. ht1351_8.jpg
  5. Click Apply.
  6. To manually add music, audiobooks, movies or TV shows to your iPod, choose one of these categories under Library on the top-left of the iTunes window.
  7. Select and drag items you want (to choose multiple items, Command-click items on a Mac or Control-click items in Windows), then drag them onto your iPod icon under Devices.
  8. To add a playlist, select it from the left side of the iTunes window and drag it onto your iPod in the same way. ht1351_9.jpg

If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. Video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format can also be added to iTunes.
