I have a craftsman garage door opener. Model number 4184315 7D When I close the garage door it will automaticly open by it's self. There is nothing obstructing the sensor that prevents the door from closing on someone or something. I have owned the house for four years. So my question is how do the adjustments on the unit work? Because I can see that there are two ways to make adjustments. One on the rear of the unit and one on the side.

There are two sets of adjustments. Down position and down force, If the travel is set to far in the down position the max down force setting will trip and the door goes back up.

I have a craftsman garage - sears-craftsman-41a5021-2-tp_3035774187492923427f-dmbde0w01a5yu2mfdv43xlfn-4-0.jpg
Adjust he down position until a slight gap is visible in the down position. Adjust slight steps until no gap is visible.

If return trips increase the down force slightly . Position adjustments are on the side, down force blue knobs on back. Note adjustment positions before beginning so if you get confused you can start over.

Hope this helps?

SOURCE: My oven door is open but the panel is flashing "LOCKED"...

Pull the plug, wait 5 minutes and plug it back in. Don't touch anything! First check to make sure the door closes. If it does you are ready to set the self cleaning mode.

SOURCE: My garage door opener won't close the garage door.

Most likely your door sensors have been bumped and are not aligned properly. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking.

The motor has a thermal protector that will cause the motor to quit when it gets hot. If you let it cool off it will automatically reset and should work again.
