Hello nursedoreen,
It all depends on your TV. Not all tv's can play movies, and even the ones that can play movie files, it cannot play every type of format. Try changing your file format. Try avi, mkv, mp4 and so on. I hope this helps, give me a feedback if it doesn't. good luck.
- Joe.

I cant play movies using my USB drive on my Samsung LCD tv model LA40D503F7R. Movies option on screen is not displaying, only music and pictures option is displaying

Nope, you certainly can't. The TV can only show still photos or play music. It's not capable of playing videos.

The manual is here:
http://www.samsung.com/ae/support/model/LA40D503F7RXZN
or
2011 LA40D503F7R 40 Inch Full HD LCD TV LA40D503F7RXZN Support SAMSUNG Gulf
See pages 16 and 17.

Burn your movies to DVD or Blu-Ray and you can plug a player into the TV, also described in the manual.

HOW DO I USE THE USB PORT TO PLAY MOVIES

Some TV models have a USB port so that users could play videos and movies from USB on TV. You can try the following steps:

1. Connect your readable and writable USB drive to computer
2. Copy your movies to USB drive and then disconnect your USB drive from computer.
3. Connect the USB device to the Sony TV USB port. Turn on the connected USB device if necessary.
4. Press the HOME button on Sony remote controller to open the menu.
5. Enter the target USD drive.
6. Select the file you want to play back, and then press the play button to start playing movies on TV via USB drive.
It's quite easy to play movies from USB on smart TV devices.

Burned dvd displays small image on tv screen

Dvds have many display formats.
If the screen is small on some, then press the "wide" button on your flat screen tv remote. It will offer you bigger screen format options.

I have a toshiba 40 inch flat tv. I cannot make it full screen. It is as if it has black margin around the picture making it appear like a 32 inch tv. What do I do?

If this is reffering to having a pc/laptop plugged into the screen, try starting the computer with the tv already plugged in and on the correct channel. If this doesn't cure your problem then try setting the screen resolution in your display properties. set to 1920x1080 or 1280x720, this should cure your problem, if this is not a computer related issue, have a look in the display settings for your tv and see if there is a resize option or similar to adjust the image size.

Hope that this helps.

Movie Files will not display on the TV.

Its quite possible your laptop has lost its association with your TV as a "secondy monitor".

To check this, minimise everything and right click on the desktop and go to Properties. Then navigate to the settings tab. This will show you how many displays it considers itself to have.

Click on number 2 (if visable) and click on extend my windows desktop to this monitor.

You should now be able to go between screens
