My 1996 *Lesmark 8300, all in one* will no longer send a fax

From what you are saying. I believe you are trying to receive (or send) a Fax directly to your PC but NOT being connected to the Internet. That is...receive a fax on your telephone line.. This IS possible but you need what we had in the old days called a "Fax Modem" on a PC card to be installed in one of the spare slots inside your PC to which you plug your Telephone line..
Windows has ALWAYS had the feature but you need the Hardware Modem to do it'

What you are explaining should work. If you need prior activity reports from previous faxes, you can press Function then 2 (Act. Report)

I think you might need to press Function, then 7 then 1


From the manual:

Transmission Verification (Xmit) Report You can use the Xmit Report as proof that you sent a fax. This report lists
the time and date of transmission, and whether the transmission was successful.

When the feature is OFF, the report is printed automatically only if an error occurred during transmission. If the report indicates NG, send the document again. If the report indicates you should check the readability of certain pages, resend those pages.
If you typically send multiple faxes to the same destinations, you may need a reminder to identify each fax transmission. You can select OFF+IMAGE or ON+IMAGE to print a portion of the first page of the fax message on the report.


1 For the FAX, press Function , 7 , 1 .
For the MFC, press Function , 1 , 7 , 1 .
2 Press or to select OFF, OFF+IMAGE, ON or ON+IMAGE and press Set .
3 Press Stop to exit.

If the person who is sending the fax cant send in color, then you would not be able to receive the fax in color. Just make sure you choice the option to received the fax in color. Ask someone to send you a fax in color and just received in color.

Most Mac's no longer have a phone modem connection. Fax is the act of sending data over a phone line. If you need to just send a fax over the internet there are a few online solutions, and a quick search in the Mac app store gave me iFax Send Receive Faxes free, but with in app purchases. Good luck.

I believe you'll need to install the Image, TWAIN drivers

Only if you have set the fax options to automatically print a sent item/transmission report. Otherwiase you will receive nothing unless the person or company you sent a fax to decides to fax you back.

If you just upgraded to Vista, note that only Vista Ultimate or Businss allow faxing - Home Premium does not have PC Faxing support built in.

your fax is probably turned off try to find a way to turn it on....manual?

There are sensors in the document feeder that detect the width and length of the paper being copied or faxed. Try getting a can of compressed air and go nuts blowing all the dust out of the feeder, if you spray everything you can get to, you will probably blow clean the sensors. Just an educated guess.
