After a storm yesterday morning, the TV just rotates through a series of screen colors, red, green, blue, then a striped screen red, green blue , and white, I have cycled power for 15 seconds a few times, and I get sound, I can change between the video inputs but only by sound, because I can't get anything on the screen except for the colors? lightning may have surged it, I;m not sure

Most common cause for this on the Sony KDL 40EX520 is that the connections to the screen across the top edge of the panel become loose causing blurred picture, mis-aligned colors etc. The Fix requires dis-assembly (Removal of the entire case) and re-seating/resecuring the connection across the top of the LCD Panel.
There is a pretty detailed video of the process (less the disassembly) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80PfZXFGDvQ
this again sounds like the power supply,.if you hear a click when you push the power button, this means your main board is reading good so replace the power supply,.
If you are using the component video hookup which is 3 wire. green, Blue ,Red and red and white audio. be sure that all 3 of the video wires are pushed in all the way. check both ends. Replace cable. if all 3 are not connected then color will be be goofy. Let me know if this doe not help.
This tv have a dead board call the T-CON decoders board. This board sit right at the bottom at the middle of the LCD screen panel.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish T-CON decoders board for the replacement.
Just respect the colors. Green output from the dvd to green input tv, Red output from the dvd to red input tv and the same with blue. All 3 cables (green , red, blue) are for the picture, so you got to plug another 2 for the sound.
If you are using a HD cable box or satelite with component outputs, be sure that all 3 cables ( green, red, and blue ) are making good connection.A loss of red or blue will cause color shift. Usually,if the tv menu comes up as the correct color but the picture dose'nt, it is most likely a signal problem.
