When i switch the compressor on it runs good till it reaches 40 psi and then pressure never increases after that. It just keeps running.
When I turn compressor on it does not build up any pressure ?
I had mine do the same thing... The head gasket blew out between the intake & discharge side.
I went to O'rileys and bought the blue gasket paper and cut out a new one ($3.00) works fine now.
Just take off the plastic cover, undo the discharge line at the compressor head, remove 4 allen
head bolts, lift off cylinder head and you'll see the gasket gone at the center bridge.
Draw a picture of the way the valve plate under the head is assembled so it goes back together right.
Use care cleaning the old gasket off, NO power tools....Hand wire brush to preserve the little ridges
that bite into the gasket, Soak with solvent helps..You can also order the gasket kit from Sears
about $12.00...Hope this helps ya......John
Are you talking about removing the small plastic cover where the on/off switch is or the large plastic shroud? I am having trouble getting the small allen head screws to come out. what's the trick?
Same problem here, no air compression, motor just runs

I have a 12 gallon air compressor. It runs fine but the pressure won't get over about 20, just keeps on running.
Craftsman 2 gal. 1.5 hp. runs fine up to 40 lbs.,motor keeps running without pressure increase.
Same thing. Compressor is fairly new and will build only to 20 psi. No signs of any air leaks.
I have the same issue. It reaches 40 psi, builds no more pressure but keeps on running.
thanks . my head gasket was gone as described .
I too have a Craftsman 3 Gal. Air Compressor,1.5hp, Horizontal with the problem of pumping up to 35 psi,and with the pump still running,no more pressure in the tank.I figured that maybe,it was 1 of three things:Check valve bad, pressure switch bad, unloaded switch bad.Dont know???Can you help on this???
10 gallon tank 3.5 hp will not run in cold weather oil compressor
