My Poulan Pro 150E pull cord will not engage to start the weed eater. The rope comes out adn retracts back with no problem, but there is no pressure on the clutch to cause the motor to start. There is not pressure on the rope pull either. It is like the rope pull does not engage the the motor to cause it to start.

Sounds like the starter dogs are broken. They are little plastic teeth that engage to turn the engine when you pull the cord. You'll need to replace the whole starter assembly to fix this.

Pull cord on weed eater won't engage

If the pull cord does not turn the engine over, the starter pawls are probably not working properly.

First, make sure that the STOP switch is in the RUN position.
Secondly, if necessary, it may not be too difficult to replace the cord or recoil assembly.

Weedeater gas blower FLI500E. The pull cord has become jammed. How can I un-jam the rope pull? I have removed the bottom of the blower and can get the rope pulled out, but it will not retract properly or...

You have to find a way to push the starter. It normally gets all stuck due to grease. One push with a screwdriver on the actual starter (The thing the rope turns) should wind the whole cord up. If not, clean it. Alot of oil/chunky-ness gets trapt when your using it.

Can't get weed eater started. Have an older weed eater brand. Fuel is getting to engine, but can't get it to start. How do I adjust the carb to get it to start. I have cleaned everything out and have the...

This is a common problem on older Poulan models. Press the primer button 10 times and pull the starter rope twice, then pull the spark plug and examine it. If the plug is wet that means gas is definitely getting to the combustion chamber. Next thing is to use a compression tester. If you do not have a compression tester but have an AutoZone anywhere near you, you can get a loaner from them. Screw the compression tester into the plug hole and pull the start rope 4 times. If the tester reads anything below 90psi, you have a bad ring and will have to take the motor apart to clean the piston and ring or replace the ring.

Keep me posted on what you find, ok? I can walk you through the procedure to replace the ring if necessary. Good Luck!

Gas weed eater pull cord wont retract after pulling cord

remove the cover and the screw holding the recoil down, turning the pulley ccw should release the spring then wind rope around pulley and (hopefully yours has the slot in it) wind in the direction of the pulley teeth then, holding rope in slot put back on spring and wind cw till almost tight, and install screw. Usually you can do this without taking rope handle off. sometimes you have to remove handle. look at spring end in the middle and make sure its not broke as long as you have it apart. Its a easy fix.
