Hi

For this model, I believe, access to the cartridge carrier is by lifting top panel backwards holding the slots on either side, beneath the control panel level. The Brother control program should guide you through centering the cartridge carrier and the replacement cartridge installation process.

I assume you don't have a manual.

Download the manual in PDF format from the top right corner of this webpage:

I hope this helps.

WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THE INK ERROR BECAUSE THE INK IS PLACED BUT STILL SAYS CONSULT USER GUIDE

Unfortunately, if the correct Dell cartridges are in place and fully seated, the cartridge missing message indicates that the sensor in the printer isn't correctly recognizing the cartridges. If you have used non-Dell cartridges or refilled cartridges, try new Dell cartridges and check for signs of ink leaking in the system. Some printers have a removable print head that can be cleaned or replaced. I'm not sure about this printer.

If the printer is under warranty, contact Dell.

I hope this helps.

I am using a lexmark replacement carteridge for dell 948 as per my computer store manager. The carteridges are not acceptable and I continue to get the error message to replace the carteridges

I would try doing a hard reset on the printer, I am not sure how to do so with your specific dell but it can be found at support.dell.com, just enter the service tag for that printer, and you would have to search for that info there, dell has excellent phone support so you can contact them as well.

If the hard reset does not work, I would try reinstalling the software for the printer.

Deteriorating Print Quality

This is Maltesecross. Turns out that the faintness of my printed pages was in fact due to a low ink cartridge, even though some pages printed out fine and others half-good. Eventually, all pages turned faint, and upon re-installing the driver, I got a low-ink warning (the first one ever). Putting in a new ink cartridge solved the problem for me.
