Hi,

This may cause by an electrical charge in the motherboard itself,Im not really sure how it affects the display of the computer. There's also a possibility that the problem is with the LCD cable or the LCD itself. Please follow this method since it usually fix such problem like that,

1.Removed the battery then unplugged the AC adapter

2.Press and hold the power button or the ON/OFF button for at least 30 seconds

3.Connect the power supply back to your computer then turn it back on.

4. Check if you will see any difference.

5. If nothing happens, try to press and hold Fn and F2 on the keyboard.

If nothing happens, there is a possibility that the problem is with the LCD or monitor itself, maybe it will need a replacement...

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa...

The screen isn't working...i plugged in a vga cable yesterday to use as a screen but it changed the settings a little bit. I went in and plugged the cable in today to change it back to the normal settings...

Try booting into safe mode (press F8 repeatedly while starting up computer). Once in safe mode, you should have display (probably at 800x600) and you can reset it to whatever and reboot to normal.

If your settings are incompatible with the monitor specs you get results like you are seeing.

What are the buttons meant for in the sony vaio vgn-fj180p above the keyboard S1 and S2

S1 and S2 buttons are called special Function keys.
By default, the S1 button turns the Volume On or Off and the S2 button toggles the display between the LCD and the external devices. You can also change these buttons assignments on the window for changing the S button assignments. To display this window, press and hold either button or launch and navigate through VAIO Central (Start, All Programs, VAIO Central).

Good Luck!!!!

VAio VGN-FS742 Screen does not display

Try to remove the battery, remove AC adapter, and press and hold power button for 45 sec. reinsert battery, and Plug and try again, if that doesn't solve it, you may need to try to change memory first, (cheapest) or the motherboard or CPU.

Please give good rating if this helps your issue, Thanks

Sony Vaio VGN-N250E/W Not Booting/Responding

Take the battery and power supply out and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This will reset your hardware settings. Your backup battery isnt your problem. Does your battery light turn on when charging? Does your keyboard lights light up when it runs for a second (try pressing caps lock)?
