Mitsubishi WS-65869 65" Rear Projection Television Logo
Posted on Aug 24, 2011

My Mitsubishi WS-65869 tv has no picture but there is sound. There's an orange glow at the base of each of the bulbs, but the blue bulb does not appear to come on. The screen is black except for faint green and red lines. I've repaired the DM board recently, due to the blinking green light of death, and everything was fine. As I was watching the tv it scrolled briefly and then the screen went black.

Mitsubishi WS-5541 light blue glow

I know these sets pretty well--worked on a lot of them when new and later--one of two possible ideas=

1. Either a odd convergence problem==confirmed or denied by going into the convergence menu (in customer menu) and selecting advanced which will bring up a grid of lines--if see the same issue (I will attach a photo of a Mitsubishi with this problem) it can be fixed.

2. Some sort of issue with the circuit board on the end of the Blue tube(you are missing blue=black) but usually in this set if that happens it is uniform and on both sides of the screen, not the top.

Let me know what you find.

I doubt it is convergence, but does not hurt to look--if the missing area was perfectly rectangular I would suspect up/down centering adjustment.

There is one other possible thing to try--we will leave it for last--set has 3 hidden menus and one is OPTION menu which allows a hard reset of entire set--sets everything back to factory except convergence adjustments which are stored in another area.

Hi I need a replacement bulb for my WS-55411 Mitsubishi. Can you help me find the right bulb and it's part number? The screen blacked out and sound still works so I assume I need a new bulb. When I shop...

Your model doesnt have a bulb since its a rear projection TV . It has three picture tubes, However loss of video with audio still working is usually caused by a vertical output failure.

Television has no picture and turns off, does it

It may need a new bulb and a heavy internal cleaning from dust. Wouldnt be for sure until you do it.

Blinking picture

Replace bulb and heave all cooling vents cleaned of dust. Bulbs on rear projection sets are more like street lights than regular home light bulbs. They dont just burn out they start in and out and maybe fading before they die.

Mitsubishi WS-65869 65" blue color problem

Yes, you need to replace the convergence output amplifier IC's. They can be ordered on line. After removing the back you must remove the circuit board which houses the amps. Then desolder them and install the replacemnts. If you are extremely lucky there won't be any re-alignment issues with the new amps. Then you should be good to go.

Fuzzy Picture

Fuzzy is a funny word. I never use it to describe a picture problem. That because fuzzy can go too many different ways. There is snowy fuzzy, blurry fuzzy, grainy fuzzy, and demodulated fuzzy. If the set goes out of focus intermittently that has something to do with the focus ciruitry. If it goes grainy that is a front end problem, usually tuner related. The other types of fuzzy are generally associated with problems in video processing some where. So, which is it?

Oh, and BTW that unit has three small picture tubes in it, one red, one blue, and one green. It doesn't have a 'bulb'.

Blue arc extends acoss width of mitsubishi ws65869

The WS65869 is a CRT based projector, no bulb. It sounds like you have a convergence failure. The convergence output ic's will need replacing.

Problem with WS-65869

One of the 3 CRT's being bad is a possibility but more than that at one time no. If the picture doesn't come on at all or any menus showing up the most likely you have a power supply or high voltage issue. Have a technician look at it for the best diagnosis.
