I have the same television and ocasionally the sound shuts-off, but I still have a picture.
What type of cable system do you have? What kind of converter box? I am trying to find out if it is the TV or converter box. I change the channel a couple of times and the sound usually comes back.

It sound like you have a bad capictor on the power supply. If you take the back off your tv, you will see little round componets. These are the capictors. The tops should be completely flat. You may need to put your finger on the top to feel if they are bubbled at all. Find the one that is bubbled and replace it.

The first thing to check is the horizontal transistor by the fly back and see if it is shorted, It will be mounted on a metal heat sink. Your TV has lost the high voltage and that is why it is in shutdown mode. To have it repair if taken top a shop, you are looking at about 150 on repairs,
