The hardest part of fixing this is locating and removing the 5 Phillips-head screws without stripping the heads. There are 2 of them at the bottom front, 2 at the top back (above the wheels), and 1 at the back under the dust canister. After they are loosened/removed, you can remove the entire top cover of the vacuum (be careful with the wiring harness), and then the black plastic piece above the cord rewind reel. You can then easily remove the rewind reel, free the snagged cord, and reassemble.

Returned the sweeper to Costco for a full refund and bought another.

Bissell momentum canister vacuum retractable electrical cord not retracting

Either the cord inside is caught on something or the retraction spring is broken.
Try to pull it out further, if you can feel any spring-back then most likely the cord is caught, maybe on itself.
Either way, the canister will probably have to be disassembled to fix the problem.

Hello fixya team. I have an old European portable canister hoover tpp2320 and the cord is stuck. I would appreciate your input and support for ideas to take it apart. Jeff

More often than not the spring tensioner that wraps the cord up fails and wont allow it to retract or be drawn out. They are generally not made to be serviced but replaced.

Bissell Hard Floor 1161 Bagless Canister Vacuum cord won't retract

You have to find a way to turn the drum the cord rolls up onto. Just move it par enough o allow it to retract. Hopefully you will hit that point before the spring lets go.

Retractable cord stuck

I wonder if there is a tangle in the cord. It could have also come off the wheel inside. Open the vacuum to see if you can untangle the wire and put it back on the wheel.

Cord rewind hoover s3765

Remove the 5 Phillips-head screws carefully without stripping the heads. There are 2 at the front bottom, 2 at the top back (above the wheels), and 1 at the back beneath the dustbin. After the screws are loosened/removed, you can remove the top cover of the vacuum (be careful with the attached wiring harness). Then remove the black plastic cover over the cord rewind wheel, and you can easily remove the wheel. Pull the cord out a bit to give yourself some slack. You should be able to free the jammed cord and then reassemble the vac.

Cord will not remain OUT..keeps slip-sliding back in

The return is stuck on your cord retractor. Take the machine apart untill you can see the retractor, then there is a button or wire that retracts the cord. If it is stuck in the down possition simply reset it, if it is broke you must replace the complete cord retractor.

Retractable cord

I'm assuming that you have bought the new retractable cord assembly. If you have so, I believe the cord should retract going counter-clock wise (pulling it makes it spin clockwise).
