HP Director buttons greyed out in Mac OS 10.5.4; scanner can't find IMac

Hi, you can download the newest software here at HP:

Remember to select for MAC os.

Wait until the installation program tells you to connect the printer.

Once installed choose the hp sollution center and select scan mode.
You can choose to scan a paper or a picture.

You can log on to the hp site and get the current driver/printer software for your printer. Get the mac os version and install via usb. Download and install then restart your imac... then attempt a print...
Should work fine with an iMac.

How are initiating the scan?
The buttons on the printer are not the most reliable. This is a mac thing not an HP thing as there is similar issues with other makes. However some folks don't have problems with the buttons.
Next is the HP director software. This should work but - if you have updated your Mac OS since installing the printer the scanning connection may have got broken and therefor you should download the latest drivers from HP and reinstall. next look at Image Capture (in the applications folder) I have many clients who find this the most reliable way of getting into the scanner (all makes), I'm surprised how few people know about it considering it's been there now since about 10.1. If you can't make that work - even after downloading from HP and installing, then download VueScan from Hamrick Software (it's a pay for) as it works with just about every scanner under the sun (and often better than the manufacturer's own).
